I bought Goats!

I guess i'll have to drop by this forum more often now. My daughter has been hounding me for a milk goat for the last couple of years. We have been looking but struggled to find what we were after but yesterday we found two Alpine does that are due to kid in the next month. They are going to be having their second and third sets of kids. I figured two goats are better than one so now i have two. Maybe later a buck.

Well, since you're new to this forum, we'll go easy on you, but you must realize when you make announcements of this type that pictures are MANDATORY!!!

Good luck with your new goats. Soon you'll wonder how you ever lived without them.

You made a good choice in buying two Goats always need other goats, they are herd animals and suffer a lot when alone.

I just got goats again after a year without them, and this time I only have two. They are very dependent on each other, I have to milk the mama with her sister right there.

Our two were also pregnant and one kidded the morning after we brought them home. Suddenly, two goats became four LOL. Watch out, they multiply like mad. The other goat is due 4/23 and she's a second freshening Nubian. I HOPE she only has twins.

I found this forum great when I was a goat newbie.

I lived in the eastern panhandle of Idaho near Orofino until last year. I miss it like crazy

Welcome to the wonderful world of goats! They are so much fun, you won't regret it When I got my first goat I found all the information I needed on this forum (and lots of support!) and I also used the www.fiascofarm.com website.
Pictures please!!!

Good Good. I got Alpines and i understand their disposition to be less friendly than the Nubians, maybe yall could tell me about them. When I breed them this fall i was thinking of breeding them to a Nubian. I need to figure out cheesemaking next. Tell me about milk differences between breeds. As for pics i'll post a link to my blog when i get them posted on it.

thanks

Alpines are inclined to be a bit nastier to other goats. They love people! I have a grade Alpine doe, and her 1/2 Saanen daughter, and I find them to be a little bit quicker to push and get into trouble around the barn. The Saanens are very laid back and more likely to hang back politely until they're sure you want them - "Me? You want me? Oh, ok" - whereas the Alpines are convinced that it's them - "Me! Me! Outta my way, she wants me!" But I love them all.
