Foot question

I know nothing or very little about goats, but I am thinking about getting a couple. I'm taking care of my neighbors goats for a month while he is on Vacation. Do goats need thier feet trimed? These goats feet (hoofs?) seem very long. While I'm asking questions, what shots do goats need? Thanks.

yes they need their feet trimmed. If you do it every month they never get too long. They need a CD&t vac and a pasturella for pneumonia.Their are others that are optional. If you are going to get dairy goats they have a whole nutrional need that exceeds meat goats. They do better with friends so don't get just one. They need shelter from wet and wind but are pretty cold hardy. They need good fencing.

They only need shots for things they may encounter and from which they can't recover on their own without serious detriment to their systems. IOW, it's up to the owners to learn about various local afflictions and act accordingly. Many of us choose to prevent with sound management rather than vaccinate/immunize. Ask us all again in a few years and see what we've changed when we have more time under our belts.
