Hopefully she'll go horse

We separated the babies from the momma's yesterday (they're almost 3.5 months old) and man is our Nubian doe throwing a fit.

This is the firsttime she was allowed to raise her babies (previous owner always bottle feed the babies), and we even needed to teach her how to nurse them. Well all night long she screamed for them and they screamed back (they're about 200 ft. away over at the barn in their own pen). The only time she was quite was when it started pouring down rain and she ran for shelter.

Well needless to say DW and I didn't get much sleep last night, since the momma's are right outside our bedroom window. The funny thing is that our Sannan/Boer cross doe is sort of OK with it. She hollered a bit at first then decided it wasn't doing any good and went back to grazing.

If the rain stops here this afternoon, like they say it will, I'll take the Nubian out and milk her for the first time this freshening, to store up milk for next years babies (you never know when a couple of gallons of frozen milk will come in handy at kidding time).

Could you do a gradual separation? Start with separating for a few hours each day and work up to all day, but leave them with her at night. That will give you more sleep and get them used to being apart until you eventually keep them separate. Maybe not so much screaming then. I know how loud Nubians can be

My does that get separated at night seem cool with it after a couple days.

I usually start weaning mine by separating at night and then as they get used to that I keep them in their pens long each day ...as long as they are eating and drinking well they should be fine. Most of them will yell for a few days and then they adjust to it...

The babies are well old enough to be weaned but she just's misses them.
Last time I had a couple kids & the doe do all that crying it only lasted a couple of days & they finally figured out where they were wasn't so bad anyways I guess. If you can hold out I'd leave them how you have them, if you can't you could try letting them together a few hours a day but it might also make it worse to split them up each day too.

Yep..I usually take them away during the day for a week or so and let them sleep and cuddle and nurse through the night. By then Momma goat is about to give up motherhood anyways. Good Luck!!

OH you should be at my place. I have 12 babies and 6 does all yelling for each other. I have to lock the babies in the barn at night just so I can sleep. They are all so loud, I am afraid my neighbors will start to complain.

It is betting a little better because I have slowly sold the babies.
