Difference in Teat size after weaning.

Our 4 yr old nubian had twins about 5 months ago and we just took her totally away from them. She is totally seperated from them. I noticed today that there her bag is uneven. One side is more shrunken up and the other side looks weird.
My question is what causes this and should I be worried about it?

thats what happens when kids nurse, they pull on the teats, eventlualy making them longer and tend to favor one side. I bottle feed, but if i leave them on the mom i check her udder twice a day and even it up if its uneven. Hope it works out and evens up ok for you

I forgot to mention that she has been away from them for about 3-4 weeks. Thats what I meant by just taking them away

Nope her udder was perfectly even. she had been slowly weaning them off herself. If I remember correctly, this was not like this last week. I just noticed it today, but I havent seen her in a week. We took another doe off at the same time and her udder is perfectly fine, it does not look anything like this.

I havent seen her in a week, because she is at my grandfathers house and my sister is feeding for him. She hasnt noticed anything either. We dont milk them, as we dont drink goat milk. So we are letting her dry up.

you have to slowly dry them up, start milking olny once a day for a while, then once every few days, then so on and so forth, atleast thats what i was told. Hope its not mastitis, is the udder fevorish?

No it wasnt hot at all. we have never done that, we usually let the moms wean them off themselves, but both of these does were losing weight. This one had twins and the other had triplets.

It does sound like she got mastisis.... I remember with my doe all of sudden her udder getting uneven and it was too late for me to get her udder better but it still works but not as good.. So you need to check on the udder becuz hers wasnt hot either. It was weird. It was hard on me and my vet becuz we couldnt believe that.. So I would suggest u to check her udder and milk her gradually to competely off.

If you dam raise and do not milk the doe twice a day, uneven udders result. Time will tell whether the udder will remain lopsided, but next time, milk her 2X a day from day one.

BTW, dam raising doesn't make an udder uneven as long as you milk the udder twice a day as normal. They still need udder care either way.

I know that now. These were her first kids. We have never milked them after weaning and we have never had this happen before. The other doe that had triplets on her, dryed up fine, her udders are not uneven at all. I find that a little odd, that there would be such a difference.

I will try to milk her today, she is hard to handle and catch. So we will see.

I always dam raise my kids & it sounds like the kids favored one side over the other.

And I don't agree with dairygoatslave that you have to milk them every other day & so on. If I keep a doeling & not sell I leave her in with all the doe's & mom weans her when ready but have also sold kids at weaning age & never milked the doe's at all after the kids were picked up & haven't had udder problems with those doe's either.
But I also have Nigerian dwarf goats & not full size dairy goats so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I would keep an eye on her & make sure her udder doesn't start feeling hot & no changes in her temp, how she eat's etc. But if the kids favored one side more than the other she might just be drying up this way.

Katie, I thought that if the kids favored one side it would be like this from when she first pulled em off? I was always told ya have to slowly dry em up, but its been said before and ill say it again, "you ask a question on how to raise a goat and youll get many diffrent awnsers and they all may be right"
