CAE testing question

When you test your herd, do you test kids? I'm getting ready to test my herd and I'm trying to decide if it's necessary to test kids, or is a neg. test for mom good?

I personally test anything close to 12 months of age. 11 months would be tested, 10 probably too. Mostly I am excluding little bitties.

Also, some folks test every 6 months, others test every year. I test for CAE, CL, and Johne's. If I were not in a TB-free state, I would also probably add brucellosis testing.

It is possible to get false positives on kids. Those that were fed properly pasturized positive milk will test positive while possible remaining negative. The test is for the anti-bodies, and they are not changed by pasturizing, so they can show up in the test. The WSU cae info page talks about this.
