MamaJohnson needs help!

MamaJohnson is on the other line and has a goat emergency.

This morning she found her favorite goat down with two babies presenting head first - one halfway out. The babies are dead, but still warm and limp.

Julie, the nubian goat is about 5, not her first babies. MamaJohnson pulled the two babies out, and Julie is now lying listless.

She has made a few attempts to 'push'. We don't know if that could be another kid or if that is to expell after birth? She can't stand up.

What should MamaJohnson do? Get her up? Give her something? Go in and check for more kids? What?

Any and all suggestions welcome and thank you. I'll stay on the line.

Halo

I hate to tell you & be wrong since I have never been in this situation before but my gut says to lube up & go in if the goat is so wore out & listless. It might be a live kid & the goat just too tired to deliver it. Otherwise she could loose the Doe & any other kids that are still in there.
Let us know how things go.

Halo head, How's mammajohnson's Doe? Did she go in?

I have a recipe for homemade electrlyte water that will help give the doe a boost & mine love it.
1 Liter warm water
2 TBSP. Honey or sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda

At least it might get her drinking good.

MamaJohnson did go in and found no more babies. She has milked Julie some lying down, and Julie is moving her back legs now, so paralysis is not a fear. Maybe she just gave up?

Right now they have her cleaned up and trying to get some feed and water in her. The number one daughter is keeping Julie company while MamaJohnsom gathers supplies.

Thank you for the quick answers and MamaJohnson will be online later.

Hi ya'll! Thnx for the help, I will try that electrolyte solution for sure, my girl was not interested in the molasses water I took her.
My daughter just came in and said she was drinking some plain water.
The goat is having some pushing, I expect to expell the placenta.

I am going to run to the vet's office and get some needles so I can start some antibiotic shots, will inquire about oxytocin also.
Talked with Vickie, I need to get some stuff on hand for emergencies, I have been lucky so far in not loosing any goats.
Off to a rough start this year, had to pull the first kid, now this.

Just don't want to loose my best milker.
Will check back soon as I can

Thnx Halo for your help! It is great to have someone a phone call away,,, helped me gather my thoughts this morning (sorry I woke you up!)

Yeah, I bet she'll suck that electrolyte water right down & it will help give her a little boost up. Mine seem to love it when I have given it to them.

She's probly just trying to expel the afterbirth & is just plain wore out. Glad the doe is fine & am really sorry the kids didn't make it. Sometimes I think it is just mother natures way.

mamajohnson-
If you are headed to the vet, see if they will give you some banamine. It will provide pain relief and help any imflammation. PM me if you need help-I am probably not too far from you and I have banamine and I think oxytocin.

well, she is holding her head up some now, so that makes me feel a bit better. We buried the babies, it was two girls.
They were pure nubian, and what I really wanted out of her! Very pretty light colored... anyway, I just want to save my girl now.

The vet said to watch her today, and if she didn't pass the placenta we would see about oxytocin, but he didn't want to rush it. I wish I had thought about the banamine. I will call him back, he is only about 15 min away.
Birdiegirl, I appreciate the offer, I think ya'll about an hour or so away, if I can't get any banamine from the vet I may hollar at you.

mamajohnson-

I won't mind a little road trip to help a goat in need....goats do not do well when they are in pain. Hopefully the vet will give you some banamine, if not call or email- I will PM you my phone number....

She doesn't seem well to me. She cannot get up, seems her back legs won't work with her.
Went back up to the vet for banamine, they were almost out and wouldnt part with any they had, so they gave me some predef. Seems to be for pain and inflamation, they promised me it would work the same (also asked them to order me a bottle of banamine) and they got me some calcium paste. I did manage to get that in her.

The next problem is to get the placenta. I am debating on going in again, sure don't want to. Vet didn't want to do any oxytocin till tomorrow, I think that is an awful long time to wait.

Back to the barn. I have another girl looking real ready.

GO inside this goat and see what you have she never will get better if she has another kid in there. Then do a uterine flush You really really need CMPK injectable for her and is a VET RX Hope the vet gave you enough pain meds for tomarrow also.

you need to take up Donna's offer to meet you that CMPK is slow acting in a case like this and you really need the injectable RX item.
