Our goats are about 150-200 yards away from the house. We have a fenced-in pen constructed from horse panels and wire fencing along one side of the barn underneath the roof overhang. The hay and goat block are here, and they use this as their base station. They aren't allowed to use the barn. We walk it twice a day, wife in morning, husband in evening (sometimes more). The walk is nice except when there is a strong north wind in winter. Then we just have to dress appropriately. We have no electricity by the barn and just use flashlights, but we have water. We are in north Alabama so only have to carry hot water out to the barn in the morning about a dozen times a year. A hay field separates the barn/pasture from the house so we can often see the goats from the house, sometimes watch with binoculars.
