Is it ok to give new mom Ibuprofen??

Had to pull a big kid last night, Mother is some pain and has swellening(sp) She has pasted the afterbirth and is nursing fine. She is very talking this morning and I would like to take away some pain.

Temperature this morning is 101.9, Ibupurofen is all I have. Fias Co website says to double dosage, but is this good for a new mother nursing?

thanks
Alex

If I were in that situation I would put some Preparation H on her hoo hoo to help with the pain. Is she grinding her teeth?

I'd give anything other than blood thinning products like aspirin. Sure can't hurt, crushed up in some vegetable oil and squirted into the mouth via syringe. If her stomach is making loads of noise then all some baking soda to the mix and squirt down throat...keep in touch...Topside

I only give banamine for pain as the other you would almost have to overdoes for it to help. Put some Prep H on the rear end and it will help the swelling but other than that mine usually are fine a few hrs after. Only if I see teeth grinding do I give anything. Make sure you worm her.

I rarely give anything for pain after a doe kids. If I do need something, I use Banamine. I also use Preparation H on the privates if they're swollen.

thanks everybody!

Just needed some "second" opinons. She does have a little tear at the top maybe 1/16". She is pooping fine and has drank almost a gallon of water but I haven't seen her pee. Still has a string of clear/white goo hanging.

I'll give it a little more time and see if it has gone down some, if not it's Prep H time.

thanks again
Alex

Yeah, probably talking to the babies. But you can tell when she is looking at you and going Maa Maa with the "hey do something" look.

I just gave her a little treat, 1/3 banana and that seemed to help- she may just need some attention SHE IS A NUBIAN

I had heard the Prep H before just didn't think about it. I guess that's why I like being able to ask a large group who's been thru it many times before.

thanks
Alex

I have some like that, they just seem a little more needy? Just like a human, she probly is sore & swollen but she should be OK after a day or so. The stringy goo & some bleeding is normal. Bleeding & discharge may go on for weeks. Also don't forget to worm her & also re worm 10 days later.
After my doe's kid I usually mix up the electrolyte water & they suck it right down, it:
1 liter warm water
2 TBSP sugar or honey
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
Congratulations on the new babies! We do like to see baby pictures though when you have time.

Unless you are treating bloat please don't put oil into any kind of majical treatmen,t that you give orally to a small ruminant. Smothering good bacteria right at the time you need her eating well to make lots of milk and heal up from the birth, just makes little sense. Make sure homemade potions have value before you use them.

Offer things in a bucket of warm water if you must, this way she can choose if she drinks it or not.

Yes Preperation H works wonderful on minor tears or swelling on the vulva. HOHO?? Privates?? Vicki
