Question Will she dry up?

My little girl (she is a pygmy) that had the c-section and lost the baby 1 week ago tomorrow, still has a huge udder and her teats are really big as well. I just feel so sorry for her. Do I try and relieve some of the pressure by trying to get some out? Or wait?

She will dry up in about 3 weeks if you milk her you will need to use a teat dip to prevent mastitis. Unless you want to milk her I would leave her alone. I had 1 abort a month early and she is almost dry now.

Thank you Chaty. I will leave her alone, and let her dry up. I do not plan on letting her breed for a year or two, just to give her time. This past week has been awful for myself and my poor Molly.

Chaty, I have a question about the c-section. I was so worried for Molly the night of the surgery that I was really not paying much attention to the vet. Apperently he did not remove the placenta. (I just found this out tonight.) I was under the understanding that the placenta woud be taken out while doing a c-section.

It has been a week, and she still has quite abit of blood. Is there anyway to know if she has passed it?

Thanks again for the help

Never heard of a vet not removing the placenta. I sure hope she passed it as I would hate to think of the mess its making in there.

thats what I'm thinking. it was really late by the time we got back from the vets office and put up a kennel in side the goat's fence.(so she wouln't be alone) so it was dark. she is up walking around, eating, urinating, and pooping (with a bit of straining). I will keep an eye on her and see how this week goes.

I hope she gets alittle better, and my last doe kids before we leave for our cruise...I'm getting abit worried.

When mine had a c-section he didnt remove it either as there is a chance of bleeding to death. Goat will bleed like women after having a baby...osme do it for a week and some can do it for a month...they clean out slowly or some faster than others. There has to be some oxytocin to release the placenta from her uterus. If you pull it it will cause problems. Coco passed hers when the babies started nursing. I am sure the vet gave yours a shot of Oxy. to help her pass her. Just dribbles out the back is normal and if its large and ropey then that is the placenta and it should of passed earlier. If its stillt here call the vet and get a shot of Oxytocin for her. If its not there just watch and you can tell if there is a problem by the smell ...other than that she hould be fine.
