Raising Goats in Texas

Moving Goats from Indiana to Texas(as is the family). I raise alfalfa hay in Indiana so I have a great supply of quality hay.... Now I am moving to Texas and all hay seems to be Coastal Bermuda... I have seen that it is ok and then not ok for goats...

How can I make sure they are still properly fed goats in Texas?

What part of Texas? Here on the Gulf Coast, you will spend over $17 a bale for imported alfalfa. Our clay soil and cotton root rot do not allow us to grow alfalfa.

We feed a small amount of the expensive hay. The majority of their alfalfa needs comes from Full-O-Pep brand alfalfa pellets.

There are a lot of goat folks in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area. I hope they will post what they do about alfalfa. I'm thinking it will be more available there.

I live in NE Texas and we feed our goats bermuda grass hay, Tifton 44. Tifton 85 is too coarse for them and they waste a lot of it. The hay guy we use said a lot of goat people in our area buy the Tifton 44 from him.
Supplement with alfalfa pellets.
