Which dehorner?

I will have Oberhasli kids here soon and need to order a dehorner. Any suggestions on which one I should get? Thanks!

Rhinehart X30. It's made for goats. I got the X40, and keeping the goat tip on tight is a pain. I also have that really heavy one, the Stone Dual Electric dehorner. It's overkill for most applications, and doesn't do as tidy a job as the Rhinehart.

We have the X30 and love it. Bought the X50 at the advice of lots of goat people on forums and hated it, so sold it.

I have the X30 and love it for my NDs, but beware that you cannot change the tips on the X30, like you can on the X50. Make sure the tip on the X30 is big enough for your goats, or plan on doing the figure-8 burn.

X50

So who is going to disbud your first kids? What I do for those around me is have them buy the 50, we fix the head for you so it has the 3/4 inch ID you need to do a good job. Then we disbud your girls with your new iron for you, and watch you do your boys.

I would think that a 50 would scare most new folks without handson help, it is hot, but that's the point you want it hot to do a good job quickly. Vicki

I just disbudded for the first time today. I bought the X50 last year and had someone else do mine. This year, I went to Roseanna's (dousthoughavemilk)and she did some and then I finally tried it. I think I did 5 kids and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was imagining it would be - I didn't pass out or puke! The X50 stayed very hot and burned fast. I like the X50.

I have both. I preferred the x30, honestly. My main bit of advice is to give ample time between horn buds AND between kids for it to re-heat.
