Baby goat with fluid inbetween her ear.

It was going to get cold here last night so I decided to bring all the babies inside before it got too cold. I am glad I did because I noticed one of them had a small spot inside her ear (in-between the skin folds) that feels like there is fluid in it. It's not hard but very soft. I have been keeping an eye on it and it isn't going down (it has grown a little.)

The only thing that is coming to my mind is to call the vet and have him lance it and give her antibiotics.

Has anyone had this happen to them before?

I have had this happen with dogs and cats...but not with goats. Have not even read about it with goats. It sounds like a hematoma. With dogs & cats just lancing it doesn't work...it comes right back. They need surgery to re-attach the 2 layers of the ear. Usually they get it from scratching too much or shaking their head..from mites or an ear infection. I would call the vet. Maybe with goats it's ok to just lance it...or maybe someone with first hand experience will post...I'm not much help am I!!! Sorry.

I'll give the vet a call and see when I can bring her into his office.

I haven't seen her rubber her ears at all but she isn't crazy about me touching it.

Thanks,

My little doelings ear was swollen at birth, but it's normal now. I don't know if it was the same thing or not. The spot was about as big around as a quarter and squishy. It absorbed, I guess, by the time she was about 2 weeks old.

That's about the size it was last night when I noticed it but today it's about 1/2 dollar size now. It is squishy.

I looked up hematoma and found a site on dogs with it. This looks like what is going on with my little goat.

Thanks again!

I love this site. Everyone here is so helpful.
