Smile I've made my decision - Thanks Vicki

I've made my decision about what buck to buy. I will not be getting the little one that I posted pics of, because after reviewing his pedigree, he can't be registered purebred.

So, this is the buck I will be getting. He will be having his yearly CAE testing in February, and I will get him when the results are in (provided they are still negative) He also has a good pedigree - according to Vicki She helped me so much I want to put a thank you out there for her.

This is him at 4 months, ready for show.

This is him now at 4 years

Nice buck and you'll probably get some spotted babies.

He's coming from Beaver Dam in NC. Apparently, they are introducing new bloodlines, and don't need him anymore.

He's an Othello son, little weak in the dam line, but this powerful sire he is out of more than compensates for it and G6S negative, and CAE negative, from a show home, someone who appraises and the price is right! Vicki

Wow, I don't know he first thing about confirmation with goats (am still trying to learn), but WOW he is an eye-catcher! Even I can see he just "looks great."

Can you guys do me a favor? Please? Tell me (us) who are still learning the world of goats, why is it that he looks good? What is it about his confirmation that we look for in a good breeding buck? (other than papers, lineage). I would really appreciate a tiny education, if it's not too much trouble.

This is all I can do from a sculptors point of view. I'm not a goat judge or expert or anything. Just have some animal anatomy education.

Forgot to put on the pictures that he seems long and dairy.

I've made my decision - Thanks Vicki - Goats

18 month old in the grownup picture, still has long ways to mature. he looks very well balanced, nice angulation and to his rear legs. he stands uphill, nice head with very nice ears.
on the down side, he toes out in the front like his sire othello

He's very immature in the young photo, and not the best topline, way to high in the hip and low in the chine, but I think if his back legs were placed more correctly apart, this would fix. And confident that it is the photo when you see him as a 4 year old.

See her arrow at the buck point of elbow? Move forward between the legs and out to the brisket, see how flat he is in the adult photo and the extension he has? You add this to the long neck, length of bone that gives you that long neck and long body and it's all about dairy character.

Also look at the line she put on the front legs. From the knee to the foot/ankle is the cannon bone, note the length of this bone, now look at the leg bone from point of elbow to knee, they are equal in length which is also from length of bone...tells you he will be tall and throw you tall kids....alot of bloodlines have very short cannon bones although the top bone is of normal heighth, this gives you shorter does with udders closer to the ground to be injured (some in just laying down and getting up and being stepped on.

He has very correct rear legs, and ear that come out of his head correctly, not set up so high.

I have several Othello daughters, Othello is out of Dear Hearts Omar, an old bloodline with consistantly nice animals, as close as I could get to Omar was the purchase of the Othello daughters, and why I have the bloodline I have to restart my herd when I did. Vicki

Awesome explanations!!! I am going out to look at ------ and see how he matches up (though I guess you look for different things in different breeds). One question, when you say they look "dairy," what does that mean?
