Another day, another kid...

Went out last night to check on does and found my youngest ff LM in labor - had the front feet out and trying hard to push out the head. It was a BIG baby and I eventually did apply a little downward traction to help her get those huge shoulders out. We have a lovely PB LM buckling - very good looking kid and may stay as our jr herd sire...we'll see how he looks as he gets older and how well his momma milks. Right now her teats are so small that she's about impossible for me to hand milk, so after making sure he had his colostrum, we gave him back to Mom this morning for her to raise.

Not only is she a very attentive mother, but HER mother and grandmother are all lovin' on him, too. It is so sweet. Libby, the mom, is the kid that was nursing off her momma and her g-ma last year - the one whose g-ma came BACK into milk to help feed her. She grew so well that I went ahead and bred her in late August (early March kid). She's continued to grow and thrive throughout her pregnancy and is a big nearly 11 month old now.

Looks like Kasie, our lone Alpine will probably go next - ligaments are nearly gone and her udder is filling. She is bred to one of our Oberhasli bucks - should be a good mating - can't wait to see the kids.

Thank you, Nancy - we are so pleased with the new little guy.

Still waiting on our next arrival(s). Kasie is teasing us - a couple days past due and her udder is continuing to fill, but no signs of active labor yet.

BTW, were you affected by all our rain earlier this month? We were high and dry, other than lots of standing water everywhere, but I know a lot of folks were hit really hard.
