Wonder If This Is Going To Be A Problem
Got a neighbor that moved in about 6 months ago.I mentioned to him that I was going to get Goats again. He says I can still smell where you had them before. I can't see that considering its been 5 years since I had them before.

HAaaaHaaa perhaps he was smelling his own upper lip. Does he have a mustache? hehe
It would seem that you have one of the best goatsnobs available for a neighbor. Paul

Well, perhaps if he has to smell them already anyway, getting a few won't matter?

Make sure to get Nubians so they can re-assure him vocally of their presence if the wind is blowing the wrong way.

I agree, also about the Nubians. Mine are super vocal. Keep a couple good bucks right on your property line so he knows for sure that's what he's smelling.

Maybe he should have moved to the city 6 months ago instead of the country if he didn't want to smell any livestock!
Oh, and my ND's can be pretty vocal too, especially when a doe's in heat.

My nubians are the quietest ones in the barn.

That was a rude comment from a neighbor. I think Lamacha Paul is right...something on his upper lip. jeepers...my goats don't smell.

This thread is killing me!
Powderhooves, he is probably one of them.
Backourty, So in addition to the Nubians, a few nice ND does to coincide with his wife's monthly cycle or opposing fifteen days
(I can't believe I'm saying that- pardon me... I just had to ... it just slipped out)

That neighbor is goatist! He has irrational, stereotyped beliefs about goats. I blame Hollywood and the media.
Since goats are so very, very stinky, you'd be doing this neighbor a kindness by situating your manure pile upwind of his house. The smell of rotting poop will be like perfume compared to the smell of *gag, barf* goats.

Get a few pigs. After that the goats will smell heavenly.

A few nice horned bucks (in addition to the spring pigs!) will be perfect. If you dis-bud your bucks, you risk burning the scent glands... they'll hardly smell at all. My boer bucks were vocal, but quiet... same for the ND buck, but with a helium sound. The most vocal, loudest, buck I've heard was a LaMancha. WHAAAT! WHA-WHA-WHAAAT!!! Though, a few noisy bucks may be torture enough... no need to maximize their scent, I suppose. Spring/summer pigs will suffice.
WHAT!! WU-WU-WHAAAAAT!!!

Weren't you planning on building a chicken coop inside the goat pen?

Oh yes, pigs! A nice pen right up the property line with a HUGE mud pit! And bucks too- personally, I think Saanen bucks stink worse that any other breed, but that's just me.:-)
Make sure you put a huge compost pile right up there too, with rotting vegetable matter and feed- water it frequently in the hot summer to get maximum stink!

Oh he comes up with all kinds of interesting stuff.I said something about planting Pine Trees and he said not to plant any close to his fence because they draw Lightning.
He already has Goats to the North of him.He asked me why goats? I told him the Meat Market is good for them now and can make more off them than Cattle. He says well I don't know who would eat a stinking Goat.I told him I've ate Goat but it isn't cost effective.
Oh well I'm getting too old to really be messing with people like this.I'll just go ahead do what I will and stay clear of him.
Had a Guy the other side of him.He was going to turn a bunch of Roosters into the brush for the Coyotes.I told him I would take them. Then I made the mistake,I told him I could take them to the Sale Barn and get $7 apiece.
Well he let me have them if I would give him half.Well next day who was over at the Sale Barn waiting on his money. He didn't want to be a Big Cattle Farmer hauling Chickens.
Then the same Guy said he could have bought me a bunch of Goats but he didn't want to be seen hauling them.

Once again, I am at the rec center on the computer and laughing so hard that people think I am a complete nut case. Oh my gosh, my face hurt from laughing so much. You guys are sooooooo funny. I'm going to show this thread to my friend cause she will really appreciate the humor in it. That is a neighbor whose eyes are just a little too close together.

If you are ever standing really close to him while the goats are maaaah-ing, lean in with a crazy look on your face and say..."they reeeeeeeeallly must like you."
