Made crochet kid sweater

Came up with this and wrote the pattern... but I'm thinking I can "improve" on it (I think it needs some tweaking). So let me do another then I can post the pattern for anyone that would like it... but here are the pics, and since I do not have any GOAT KIDS YET *grrrrr* I had to use my min pin as a model (who doesn't model well at all!).

That is really cute, wish I could do that.
Although I am not real sure what the dog is thinking about that.

I think it's perfect! Maybe two loops at the rear for hind legs?

LOL! You're dog looks MAD

Since we're discussing animal torture, here's what I did for(to?) mine...

She hates that hat... she likes the jacket, but when the hat comes out, you get the evil eye. It always makes me laugh though, it reminds me of that comic strip "Life is Hell"

LOL Oh my! I just about spit through my nose on those!!! LOL!!!

Yes, Tiki wasn't too happy to be modeling for me. I actually made her her very own sweater, but she keeps chewing it off. I keep telling her she'll be cold, but NOOOOO... doesn't listen to me! NOPE!

I'm almost done with coat #2, but believe it or not.. I think I want to change the pattern one more time. I will post pics... If anyone likes, I will go ahead and post the pattern of these two, then I will work on this last one.

Kind of hard to make a pattern from scratch without the proper model. Maybe someone will let me borrow a goat baby? hehehee j/k

Coat #2

I didn't add any legs to this one... because, as I was in the middle of making this, I had a better idea for a coat. The one I REALLY want to do will look a LOT better than either one of these (hopefully) ^_^ It's next, I hope to have it done in about a day 1/2.

This coat is a little too big for a kid anyway... maybe a full grown ND. LOL!

Took me a bit longer than I had hoped, but I'm almost done with my final, and as easy as I could make it, coat... I'll have the pattern all ready to go here in a bit.
But I'm going to get some shut eye.. still on goat watch and I'm SOOOOO exhausted!

Finally!!!!

Here's the sweater... I made it as simple as possible for easy instruction. If you are an advanced crocheter, you can tweek this however you like.

Anyone who makes this will have to size up their general goat baby size to adjust pattern accordingly.. I think I may add 2 or 3 more rows to the tail end to make it longer... it's kind of short back there.

These are really cute!!!
Does anyone have a pattern I could use to sew one rather than knit or crochette? I have my sewing machine sitting out-don't need to get a whole nother set of "things" out.--Plus-I sew much better than anything I can do with yarn.
From the looks of it I could use a pattern for a dog coat??
Good luck with all those babies everybody!

Free pattern created by Cricket

CH=chain
SC=Single crochet
DC=Double crochet
TC=Triple crochet (will be optional in this pattern)
SS=Slip Stitch
* = an instruction that you will repeat.

Size: "G/6 - 4.25MM" hook
2 skeins of yarn, size 4 medium weight "Heart" brand from walmart variety on pictured coat.

Gauge: 3 DC=1"

Body Sides:
CH 32 (or longer to fit the length of your goatie)
Row 1: DC in 3rd chain from hook, DC across, CH 2 and turn your work clockwise to continue down the other side (always turn the same way).
Row 2-5: DC across, CH 2 and turn

*Row 6: Decrease once by skipping the first chain, and then DC across as usual, CH 2 and turn.
*Row 7: (opposite of row 6) DC across until you reach the second chain from the end, skip this chain and DC in last chain. CH 2 and turn.

Row 8: repeat Row 6
Row 9: repeat Row 7
Row 10: repeat Row 6

Row 11: DC across without any decreases. (This is your spine area on the back of your animal, you can add another row or two for width if you like) CH 2 and turn.

*Row 12: Start to increase by DC 2 times in first chain. DC across as usual, CH 2 and turn.
*Row 13: DC across until last chain, increase in last chain by DC 2 times. CH 2 and turn.

Row 14: repeat Row 12
Row 15: repeat Row 13
Row 16: repeat Row 12

Row 17-21: No increases or decreases, just DC across CH 2 and turn until very end of row 21 (do not CH 2 and turn then).

Without tieing off what you just did, fold the coat together, aligning seams and bent on the "spinal" row (row 11 is the middle mark for fold)
The triangled sloping side should be facing your right.
SS up the "chest" end on the very ends of your rows for the first 4 Rows (this will sew your chest area together).
You will notice that the neck hole has formed.
CH 1 (you should be at the very middle bottom of the neck hole), SC around the neck in each evenly spaced hole you can find. Do not sew the 2 sides of the neck hole together, we are just going around it. SS when you get to the first SC chain you made, to connect it together
Do not tie off.

Neck Collar:
CH 3 from where you are at and DC around your neck chain you previously made. "OR" you can TC around (your choice)

I added a reverse SC for a nice border around the collar cuff.. but that is optional if you like or even add another row if you want the collar to be longer.

SS last stitch to beginning stitch and tie off. (done with neck)

Belly Strap:
Flip coat upside down, making sure seams on the bottom length side match, neck is facing your right side, and the opened part of belly area is facing up.

Starting from the right, count 10 chains or about 3 1/2 - 4 inches in length (this will be the front 2 legs area) You can also adjust this.

Attach your yarn by hooking it onto the chain you counted, and only go through the opened side that is facing you. (we do not want to sew the two sides together) We are making a sort of "bridge".
CH 1, SC across starting in the CH 1 you just made, and using each chain between the DC's you made on the body side.
CH 1 and turn.

Row 2-8: SC across row, CH 1 and turn (do not CH 1 and turn on last row). You can also adjust this for wider belly girth.

Do not tie off, instead align belly band up to opposite body side chain area. Make sure to count the chains to see if they line up. SS seams together to sew up and attach to other side. Tie off and cut!

Tail decoration or length extender:

I used the "puff" stitch on this coat... if you know how to do the puff stitch, I think it was a cute add-on.

On the tail end, puff stitch or DC or TC (your choice) to add length for atleast 2 rows. Tie and cut off.

Hide all of your yarn tails and pull the coat inside out to hide all seams.

All done! ^_^

If you find any mistakes or have any suggestions, please say so! ^_^

Pattern and picture now posted on my website here:

This is the general shape of what I crochet'd here. This is kind of a guess... so maybe you can find a better pattern shape. You could make a small quilt in this shape and sew together the dotted lines to make the chest, then add a belly band. Just measure or eyeball the size of a standard goat baby or of the type you might have, and make it to match up.

It looks really nice. I have a question, though. Is that a belly band and how far back is it going to come? If your kid is a boy, he might end up peeing on it.

It's not a really thick band, only 10 chains long, and the front leg area is 3 1/2 to 4 inches.

I have a bad habit of making the coat to short for the tail... so the belly band does look like it will be in the way since it seems in the middle of this coat, but when I made the pattern, I "was" thinking about boys. ^_^ It's an optical illusion, basically... here's a pic to illustrate what I mean.
Made crochet kid sweater - Goats

I wrote on the pattern, where it can be adjusted to fit the kid better. Like when you are starting out, chain more than 32, and you will have a longer body, just put the belly band in the exact same place.

Thanks!
