* = an instruction that you will repeat.
Size: "G/6 - 4.25MM" hook
2 skeins of yarn, size 4 medium weight "Heart" brand from walmart variety on pictured coat.
Gauge: 3 DC=1"
Body Sides:
CH 32 (or longer to fit the length of your goatie)
Row 1: DC in 3rd chain from hook, DC across, CH 2 and turn your work clockwise to continue down the other side (always turn the same way).
Row 2-5: DC across, CH 2 and turn
*Row 6: Decrease once by skipping the first chain, and then DC across as usual, CH 2 and turn.
*Row 7: (opposite of row 6) DC across until you reach the second chain from the end, skip this chain and DC in last chain. CH 2 and turn.
Row 8: repeat Row 6
Row 9: repeat Row 7
Row 10: repeat Row 6
Row 11: DC across without any decreases. (This is your spine area on the back of your animal, you can add another row or two for width if you like) CH 2 and turn.
*Row 12: Start to increase by DC 2 times in first chain. DC across as usual, CH 2 and turn.
*Row 13: DC across until last chain, increase in last chain by DC 2 times. CH 2 and turn.
Row 14: repeat Row 12
Row 15: repeat Row 13
Row 16: repeat Row 12
Row 17-21: No increases or decreases, just DC across CH 2 and turn until very end of row 21 (do not CH 2 and turn then).
Without tieing off what you just did, fold the coat together, aligning seams and bent on the "spinal" row (row 11 is the middle mark for fold)
The triangled sloping side should be facing your right.
SS up the "chest" end on the very ends of your rows for the first 4 Rows (this will sew your chest area together).
You will notice that the neck hole has formed.
CH 1 (you should be at the very middle bottom of the neck hole), SC around the neck in each evenly spaced hole you can find. Do not sew the 2 sides of the neck hole together, we are just going around it. SS when you get to the first SC chain you made, to connect it together
Do not tie off.
Neck Collar:
CH 3 from where you are at and DC around your neck chain you previously made. "OR" you can TC around (your choice)
I added a reverse SC for a nice border around the collar cuff.. but that is optional if you like or even add another row if you want the collar to be longer.
SS last stitch to beginning stitch and tie off. (done with neck)
Belly Strap:
Flip coat upside down, making sure seams on the bottom length side match, neck is facing your right side, and the opened part of belly area is facing up.
Starting from the right, count 10 chains or about 3 1/2 - 4 inches in length (this will be the front 2 legs area) You can also adjust this.
Attach your yarn by hooking it onto the chain you counted, and only go through the opened side that is facing you. (we do not want to sew the two sides together) We are making a sort of "bridge".
CH 1, SC across starting in the CH 1 you just made, and using each chain between the DC's you made on the body side.
CH 1 and turn.
Row 2-8: SC across row, CH 1 and turn (do not CH 1 and turn on last row). You can also adjust this for wider belly girth.
Do not tie off, instead align belly band up to opposite body side chain area. Make sure to count the chains to see if they line up. SS seams together to sew up and attach to other side. Tie off and cut!
Tail decoration or length extender:
I used the "puff" stitch on this coat... if you know how to do the puff stitch, I think it was a cute add-on.
On the tail end, puff stitch or DC or TC (your choice) to add length for atleast 2 rows. Tie and cut off.
Hide all of your yarn tails and pull the coat inside out to hide all seams.
All done! ^_^
If you find any mistakes or have any suggestions, please say so! ^_^
