Cornstarch wroks great, but the importain thing is to keep then from walking around to much. I cut a llamas to short once, I covered it in cornstarch the bleeding stopped and I turned her out and it was bleeding again  I brought her back packed it in cornstarch again, by this time she hated me! I left her tied short in the barn for the rest of the afternoon in a pile of sawdust and she was fine.
I feel horible any time I have done it, dog, cats, goat, and the llama
