Congrats! We paid someone to do our first two. Then we decided that wasn't worth the $$$! So we went and helped some friends butcher one of theirs in order to learn how to do it. Since then, we have butchered out two of ours which is much cheaper ! Now, I want to move on to doing our own pigs....

i tried the first time with a goat a year ago honestly. took me to last night to really do it. but at least i had time to think about it and prepare.

mabye they prefer deer to goats as they dont' know the goats. it's different when you know the animal.

We did our first a few weeks ago. We had some friends over who do deer. We actually had three on the docket for the day but a milk customer came who wanted a farm tour followed by the dairy inspector so we lost enough daylight hours that we only ended up with one. I think that first one will prove the biggest hurdle.
