Kiddin season over

Thank god kiddin is over. I ended up with 3 full blood bucklings 1 full blood doeling and 3 % doelings. Outta 23 kids this is it. With the late term abortions, and weak kids this year really sucked. Now the good news. I found a momma for one of the bottle babies so now I only have one on the bottle! The problem now is the 4-h kids dont have any for wethers. We have to buy wethers because of the chlymedia. Spend all this money on these goats to have to buy more, who can afford that? I am really depressed about this kiddin season and not sure where I am gonna go from here.

Any particular reason you aren't rebreeding?
I realize that the kids won't fit for Market wethers, but you could still have something to sell if you re-breed the does who aborted.
There is still time....not much, but some.

My buck is with the nannies year round until close to kidding then I move the doe outta the field. I am rebreading but I thought it took 8 weeks after the abortion. We might get lucky and have a couple of babies before show time, but I dont think there will not be enough time to make weight for sale. The kids use that money for the food for their project animals the following year.

awww... had Scarlet not messed up Dorkweed's ear, I'd volunteer him for the 4H job.

I know how heartbreaking it is... but you'll change your mind when you see all the kids out there playing.

So sorry you had such a bad season but like you said there is some good news too. You were hit hard but I'm sure you can find the strength and wisdom to move forward.
