Dairy Goat Kidding Questions

okay, hi, im new to kidding time, iv got 5 girls due in January and March. However ones (Vianna, my herd queen) is acting like shes gona kid...however iv been waiting all day and nothing....nada...zip. I think she may have taken the first time i bred her...shes really difficult to tell when in heat and when shes not so yep.....
Heres what shes been doing
1. not a first timer, shes a 5yr old
2. stargazing
3.mucesy
4.dialated
6. restels
7.herds protective of her(iv put her in her own pen with fresh bedding)
9.pawing/sniffing bedding
10.up and down

Im very nervious, Yes i do have my kit ready and excited...iv moved the water bucket out of her pen, check on her every so often. I have also called her old owner and she says she should kidd any time(i bred her myself this time but she knows how vianna acts when shes preg/due). oy...im exhauseted and frusterated..any advice?

was she tested for cae? hard is not a good sign at all. be prepared to raise the kids with a bottle and i would not feed the raw colostrum from this doe.

My best advice for kidding is to get a baby monitor in the barn. Walmart has them for around $20. With the monitor, you can hear what's going on in the barn and not have to run out every two hours- and keep yourself awake thinking "what if" in between.

Almost all does make a lot of noise when in hard labor... maaaaamaaaaBLAGGGGGGGGGGGG. (breath breath) BLAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH.

That sound will get your attention!

Take your blanket and pillow to the barn.

In the dark, the pupils of mammals dilate to allow more light in.

If it is just the white colored stuff and there isnt much you could be in the same boat as I am....Waiting a month or more!
This is my goat, Gretta, puffy, red, draining, and that was on the 22nd of Dec. Everything has stopped now.( Geeze) I am waiting for her to start doing something again. ( hope your not in my boat!)

You're describing a doe that is near labor. When she starts to stretch and get those babies into position, she will soon start to push. We call this "goat yoga". As long as she is not actively pushing or laboring, sit back and relax and listen to her. She may take quite a while in this stage and some does do like to be alone, seemingly waiting to kid until you leave, while others seem to wait until you come back to the stall.

Once she is in active labor, don't let her go too long without progressing.

Have you read this site?

http://fiascofarm.com/goats/index.htm#doeskidding

There are pictorials and discussions and all sorts of helpful stuff for the first-timers. It's a good refresher course for some of us that haven't done it much or haven't had a new kid on the ground in a while too.

It might help you while away the hours until she's ready and give you some pointers.
