What is this?

My goat Gretta was exposed to a buck about 3-4 (or so) months ago. The owner was guessing...
Today I went out to feed and noticed Grettas udder was up a bit but she has a small amount of discharge from her vulva and its puffy and kinda red.I am not sure if this is a heat, normal, or if she is actually closer to kidding...
If yall have any opinion please feel free to help!
In case yall dont remember I will post pics from a month age what she looked like and what is going on today...

She looks quite a bit puffy - what color is the discharge?

I couldn't help but notice she looks a little thin in the loin - can you feel her backbone - as in sharp? I would work on building up her body condition - ESPECIALLY since it appears she'll be nursing some babies soon.

Thank you, she is 3/4 Nubian 1/4 boer bred( or not) to a boer
She appears thin to me but She has weedy pasture hay 24/7 and we walk the woods for acorns, leaves and goodies every day. I give her 2 cups med goat (16 %) am & pm. She has been wormed.
How can I improve her condition? She is quite a bit thicker than she was when I got her. I will post a side view..maybe you can tell me if she looks to thin from that.

Also when you say puffy, are you thinking she is closer to kidding than a couple of months? The discharge is a creamy color.

When you 'pinch' around the base of her tail, does it seem like your fingers nearly touch? Also, does her rear look pointy?

What is this? - Goats

You can see how pointy Whiskey is and that her ligaments were gone... she aborted 3 days later.

its hard to see the lig area with a furry winter coat but I think I can see the sunken in parts. feel her back bone right before her tail, does it feel like you can wrap you hand around her backbone with just skin in between your fingers? feel her udder. when it gets tight and really full, with the skin taut she will kid soon. she doesn't look thin to me. some have that "thin loin" look even when they are otherwise in good flesh. they will also get that look when the baby drops in preparation for birth!

Ok I felt them , I felt the other goats first to find it, then I felt for hers they seemed further from the tail/ spine than the other does. Also I can not touch my fingers but the area is much different than the other does, as in more hollow.

Yeah... I wouldn't worry about her yet. But maybe you can get a nice padded room next to mine in the looney bin.

Yah, hmm - creamy is usually a mucous plug sign, unless it's 'buck deposit' ;0) You are pretty close!

If she was thin when you got her, then it's just going to take some time and some groceries - I was pretty sure she was dairy, but still - if you feel the spinal process and it feels bony/sharp...do you know if the wormer was effective? Did you do a fecal?

Study up on body condition scoring ;-) Big rumens and lots of fluff can fool the eye.
http://bedford.extension.psu.edu/agr...%20Scoring.htm <-- this applies to meat goats, but if she's 1/4boer, I'd certainly think it would apply. A bony sharp spine is a bony sharp spine - dairy or meat is not a good thing.

Within a herd you'll have a full range - some are harder keepers than others. I have some that keep on just pasture, and a few left that I haven't culled quite yet (but are on the list) that do need a treat at night.

She is starting to have some mucous show- when she drops her bloody mucous plug- which she may already have done- then ou start to watch.

Some meat does will drop their plug as long as 8 weeks before they kid- seen it happen. When she starts to 'string out' (strings of mucous hanging off her butt) then kidding is emminant.

I'd go with the udder- when you see it full and somewhat shiney, then you'll have babies. Some does do not fill their udders until right before kidding though. And I'd give her udder a good wash before kidding begins.

I personally would be feeding her some alfalfa pellets or hay and maybe some beet pulp as it helps with the calcium that they need and will help build them up and put some weight on too...thats what I do with mine and they are dairy goats.

Ok I started her on the alfalfa pellets, not sure how much to give so I just gave her a handful at lunch time.

Her udder is up some more and she had some draining today that dripped a bit but no streaming or bursting full udder.
