bred older goat showing blood

Molly was a spring kid in 1998. She is maybe bred, and would be due January 25.
Tonight she was hanging a little string/blob of blood. No other signs of any kind, except that she wanted on the stand at feeding time, and was somewhat vocal when I came back to the house. She is not normally one who wants attention.

I know I just have to wait and see, but is this a sign that she might miscarry?

thanks,
mary

She's just the same today. Since she is not due for several weeks, no news is good news. We'll just wait and watch.

about two years ago i had a doe with a bit blood in the mucus about six weeks before her due date. i thought this would be the beginning of abortion but she kept going and delivered on day 150 without any complications.
i would just watch her and if she bleeds more, might be something wrong with the placement of the placenta. the color of the blood might tell you if there is a problem too.

Thanks, Susanne. Having miscarried several times myself, that was my first thought when I saw blood. But today I am optimistic. So we'll just see.

She may deliver earlier though than the due date which is okay sometimes. My 10 month old doe Rose was a week early. She was very healthy. I actually had a baby that was born a month early from a very under nourished doe I bought. She was my first one and would have lived and did well had I known she needed colostrum. The mom did not give milk and she was my only goat so I had no spare colostrum froze. Hope everything goes well for you.

Well, today I looked out to see this old goat flirting across the fence with the buck. So I've let him back in and she is standing for him.

So do you think she had a false pregnancy? Did she have any udder started due in January at that age, she would have not only had udder started but been very very poochy in the vulva (embarassingly so ...now to be in heat 3 weeks later, it would explain the small amount of blood and being so vocal. Interesting creatures Vicki

The earlier breeding may not have taken at all. I have, once, in the past had to give her a shot to get a breeding to take. Maybe I should have given her one today. No, she had not been showing any signs at all. Of course her sides were wide enough that she could have been, but not so wide as to make me certain she was. No udder development or poochiness.
