nodules on goats

Was talking to one of my friends that has pigmy goats. She asked me if my goat ever got nodules on her face or neck. I told her no , then she said hers do every once in a while and then she said that some else that has goats in town that theres do to. She said they just lance them and clean them out with alcohol. Question Is that normal ?? I have had a goat for 4 years and never had any growths on her.

That is not normal at all, there is some reason why her goats keep getting nodules (abscesses).

since no one has spelled it out yet. there is some likelyhood that the goats have CL. it is not normal, it is contagious and is not curable. see the sticky at the top of the forum for more info.

It is actually very common. Most goats have CL and CAE and a myriad of other things. Until folks are educated about communicable disease the best way to deal with the 'nodules' is exactly what they are doing.

I didn't deal with our 'nodules' in our dairy herd until we knew what CL was and how to test for it, I have old vet bills from Texas A&M where it was called cancer. And CAE was thought to be hereditary in families and was a simple arthritis. You do better when you know better. Vicki

If her goats have CL be sure to avoid bringing it home on your shoes or hands.

Next question ( I read the sticky) If a goat has no open wound, is it sexually transmitted?? Also both these people take there goats to the fair. Is that safe for the other goats?

yes, very infectious. external abscess in most cases has internal abscess as well. it is not okay to go to shows with diseases like this and risk the health of other herds.
