New Toggenburg Herd

I recently purchased four does to start a toggenburg herd. Luckly I was able to get animals that are from a buck which ranks #9 and 8 on the ADGA genetic elite buck list. I cannot wait to see the beautiful babies we end up with.

I have 3 bred does and a yearling that we may breed later in Dec.

I am new to the site and look foward to talking with you all sharing stories. The site has been very informative so far.

Howdy & welcome Tog!! I have learned tons here too...one of them being poor CJB going mad; he posted pics of his "preggo" does and if I recall correctly none of them were but we all had fun making wild guesses.
Fact is I had guessed two more preggo than he had goats, just to let you know what an expert I yam!

Yay, another Togg breeder! I show, linear appraise, and milk test my Toggenburgs. I'd be happy to answer any questions about these programs. Who is the sire to your does? The Elite list changes every six months, and I'm also a pedigree buff, so I'm always curious about bloodlines.
My Togg brag- my avatar is my doe Trinity, who was the #1 Togg for milk and butterfat in 2007.

Awesome AnnaS!! The bucks in my girls pedigrees are Emperior Finn Padre and Bluff-Top Hercules II. All of them are first fresheners so the excitment of the unknown is killing me right now. In the future I plan on using AI to breed my girls do you collect?

I'm glad I have someone other than the lady I bought from to bug about my little goat herd, she is busy with a production dairy. All of My does but one have SG designations. My little girl Odetta has SG designations on both lines back for three generations.

Hercules II is a Chivas Regal grandson and my avatar doe is a Chivas Regal grandaughter, so our Toggs are related. Of course, thee's a ton of Chivas Regal Toggs out there, but still, that's neat.
I'm guessing from the bucks & the SGs that you bought your Toggs from the Taylor's. You've got some super does there, and with generations of milk and linear records, you'll know exactly what you've got.

Anna do you have a buck or semen I could use to breed my lil oddetta to? I even thought about going back to Chivas to linebreed, he is 3 genereation backs so I should be far enough back to remove any major faults in his genetics. Maybe not the marking trait.

I haven't done AI yet- I've taken classes but never had the $$ for a tank. I Pm'ed you with my favorite buck, who is available AI. I leased him for two years and just loved him & his kids.

You could linebreed on Chivas if you wanted to improve type, Chivas is known as a super udder buck but he can also add a shallow, narrow body. He's not exactly a buck to improve milk production, either. But his strong traits for teat placement and rear udder height seem to be very dominant and might come to the fore in a close breeding.
