Lost my Saanen buck this arvo to snake bite...

....so not a happy household. We were heading off to pick up our dog food and I saw Jack our Saanen buck lying head towards the water on the side of the bottom dam....so we knew something wasnt right. He was like unconscious, frothing at the mouth, panting and paralysed. Must have only happened minutes before we saw him. So there must be one hellova big Tiger snake in the gorse somewhere. We are now praying that it doesnt get another buck or one of the Dexter calves. Jack was not a small buck.
We put him out of his misery, in obvious pain although you could see in his eyes he wasnt there.

I'm so sorry!
I've only had stupid dogs bitten by copperheads. They get terribly swollen, but recover fine.
I'm so sorry.

Shazza,
I am sorry for your loss. Year before last, I lost my Saanen Doe to a snake. She had the same symptoms as you described. I hope that you find the snake and kill him.

I am so sorry. I am so glad I do not live where there are snakes. I am so scared of them, I would never go into the field.
I would be hunting that thing down and killing it. OK i would have someone else do it.

Thanks guys...I walked the paddock yesterday morning to check on the cows, wish I'd seen the snake then, cos I would've had ross down there hunting for it.

I'm so sorry about your buck.

Coincidentally, I used to have a Saanen buck also named "Jack."

So sorry, my DS horse was bitten seven times last year by a huge copperhead. He had to be trailered home and was pretty sick for a few days, luckily he recovered .
It is so hard to have to see your animals in pain. At least you found him quickly. ((HUGS))
