Another missing baby
I am starting to think that it might be humans. The same exact date last year late night of 10-25 to early 10-26, baby Becca turned up missing. I chalked it up to coyotes. But coyotes do not carry calendars! Also my son saw a White Expedition a couple of nights earlier parked on an access road near our house right near the barn at 3 am and when he turned on the light and opened the window they took off. We are half a mile from a road so it is odd to see someone on that private road parked near our house.
I woke up every hour or two last night and checked on everyone.
If it is some sick Halloween thing I am really going to loose it. If someone wants to increase their herd I will be very angry as well.
Sadly I cannot let out the LGDs since she is a serious chicken killer and has broken down the chicken's fence to get at them, pulls them right out of the coop. He likes to chase them and lick them and carry them around. Not someting chickens like and he gets excited when the female is killing and eating my chickens So them in their pen will not deter a human.
I am keeping an eye out and if I see them I will get their plate number.
I just want her back. Of course it had to be a baby goat that I named at birth, very friendly. Her mom Mocha is a great milker with good sized teats and Latte' was one of her quads that I planned on keeping. I would still be annoyed if it was a buckling but why that one?!?!

I am so sorry about that. It is just too coincidental that it would happen again one year later to the day. It almost sounds occult oriented. Sorry to say, but it is out there and there are some very sick people who would not think twice about stealing someones goat for a ritual. Hopefully someone is just plain stingy and wants a free goat. I would think you could call the authorities and give them what info you do have about the vehicle. I am sure they would keep an eye out for it. You never know. Hope she comes back to you soon and in good shape.

I am seriously afraid of what I would do if I caught someone stealing an animal from me.
I sure hope you find out what's going on. I would get one of those fake video cameras with the little red LED light and put it in front of your barn as a deterrent. If it saves one goat it would be worth it, if it's people.

Can you sleep out in the barn? I would be ready with a camera to snap a picture of the people. Also this is where hot wires are good. 2 feet off the ground, use wire that is very hard to see in the dark. Put lots of power to it. Just be sure not to harm them to bad, they can still sue you if they get hurt. Doesn't matter if they plan to break into your barn and steel a kid.

Hmmm.
My Extension Agent told me that it was my right to shoot anything that attacked my animals..... he didn't specify but I'm gonna guess that didn't mean humans.
I'm sorry this has happened, and yes, I too would think Halloween. I would report it to the sherriff.

SSS. Applies to all vermin, 2 legged and 4 legged. If someone was to sit out in a thicket at that access road, it would sure scare the pee-wadden out of them, esp. if someone were to fire a shotgun into the air within, say, 10 ft. of their vehicle.

Remind me not to come near your house in the dark! Or bring myself a bat...

When someone stole some of my geese in 2007 I put the hot wire up at face level. I also spiked the driveway.

Wow, hot wire at face level--I will have to remember that. I hope it hurt bad if they came back. Spiking the driveway is ingenious! I always get a bit concerned around Halloween too. My black GSD is quite a deterrent during the day and I lock everyone up at night. No one stays outside EVER. I don't have any LGD's so I cant take the chance.

I hope you either Find your Goat,or at least find out what happened. It seems like to big of a coincidence for this to happen two times exactly a Year apart, that definitely smells like a Person had a hand in this. It's terrible how bad some People are,and also how mean they can be to Animals.Last Fall my Neighbor had 2 small Goats, and one Night someone shot them right by their Shed. One looked like it died pretty quick, but the other one you could see signs of where it kicked and really suffered before dieing.I just don't understand why People do these crazy awful things.

Well I live way out in the sticks and the sheriff told me where we are and where they are it would take a while to get here and to do what I had to do. Yep lots of acreage to hide anything...And its know around town I shoot first and ask questions later. I have caught hunters on my property and believe me they had to clean out their pants when I was threw with them.
This is just awful they took your doeling and I would put a hotwire also on the outside of the pen where the goats cant reach it and if they do come back they cant let go till you want them too. Good luck and I do hope you find her.

I have a few questions
Did you advertise kids for sale anywhere? Maybe the goatnapper was made aware you had goats available that way?Being that you live away from well traveled paths, there had to have been a way that they were made aware you had goats.
Was this kid still on mamas milk? if so, providing they took it with the intentions of raising it, won't they need milk replacer? Maybe you can ask local feed places if they know anyone in white explorer who bought it recently.
and next year, be ready!!!!

I did call the police and I am waiting for them to show up. Maybe they know of crazys in the area and can check them out. I also would like them to go over to where they are drilling yet another oil thing and ask them. They were drilling near the same spot same time last year as well. Last year I wanted to go and ask them but my neighbor said that they could not talk to me.
I have been patroling with a metal pipe and bat. I have left the rifle just inside the door and I would rather smack the heck out of them.
Yes Red she is nursing. She is 2 months old and eating hay and pellets but was still on her mom and I am so worried about her. I have had a few people here to buy goats but usually I meet them somewhere. Most of them are still in contact with me so I do not think it is them. Others know I have goats since my neighbor has a big mouth and tells them. But last year I sold none from here.
You better believe that next year I will be in the barn armed and very angry.
I am so worried about her and hope I find out what happened. I really really hope to get her back alive.

Humm... asking if someone in a white surburban getting feed out of character at the local feed store may not be a bad idea. I cannot see someone not feeding an animals nothing for a few days. Worth a try.
Praying you find her.

How sad. I remember when Bacca turned up missing.
I have to say I LOVE the electric fence to the face. That is WONDERFUL.
i hate to say it but when a goat goes missing like that, they are normally butchered.

I remember Becca going missing, too
I'm so sorry. I really don't know what I'd do. Face-height electric sounds like a very good start.

Well the police got busy and did not show yesterday. He agreed it was very odd and she was probably stolen and my chances are slim to none to get her back. He has said he was going to go to the oil rig and speak to them and see if they saw anything since they are there 24/7. Also ask the neighbors. Hopefully he might find some time today.
I asked him if he knew of any Halloween crazies/cults in the area and he did not. I did do a few searches on the net and came up empty handed. I checked newspapers, university studies and etc.
I too like the idea of face high electric wire but I think I want to add spikes!
My daughter waited till she got into the shower to cry but the poor kid cried so loud we heard her anyway. It just makes me want justice even more.

First of all, I'm so sorry about your missing kid. Secondly, I wanted to share that our neighbor's dog attacked and killed all our chickens this last spring, so we put up hot wire at nose and 'dig' level around the coop. Occasionally now during the night we still hear a dog yelp in pain, but our new flock of chickens is safe and secure. Might think about the hot wire for your LGDs, in order to protect your chickens. Then turn your LGD's loose to protect your goats.
We have goats and calves stolen constantly here in Southern Idaho, it's a big problem. So we put motion sensor lights all the way around our barn and shop. In your case, my husband suggested you add land mines too. Big hugs!
