Can I feed "dump milk" to goats

I work at a large dairy. We have lots of milk that we dump and send to be hog food when it gets close to or past the expiration date. This is not bad in any other way. Would this be safe/ good to feed to goats?

bottle babies?? um, i would think no, especially if its pasturized, pasturized milk isnt good for bottle babies,

and adult goats dont use milk, pigs do because they are omnivores and can eat anything,

???????? why?

i only feed pasteurized milk to my bottle kids. i have not had any problems with it. they are growing very well.

livinzoo you can feed the milk to your growing kids. i would only feed it pasteurizes for safety reason.
adults can have it in small amounts too but never replace their normal diet.

I dont know of but a couple of people on here that would tell you not to feed your goats store cow milk, so even though i would agree its not as good for them as raw whole milk but I dont see the harm.

Anyone who practices raising CL and CAE free kids only feeds pasteurized milk. Store bought cow milk is the food of choice for lots of folks on the boards as is is better for the kids than the powdered replacement and nowhere near as expensive. The above poster is quite correct in saying that adult goats don't need milk...if you don't have any bottle babies chickens sure do love it too.

Not exactly Suzy, some do feed raw cows milk instead of pastuerized goat milk.

Sure, the chickens do love it, but we found that their metabolism handles it so much better if it can clabber first. Think of all that calcium making those egg shells hard! We also soak whole wheat in goat milk for 24-48 hours before feeding it to the birds.

You can also freeze it for later use if you happen to run across more than you can feed.

Dump milk..... As in cows not tested for Johnnes? As in cows with mastitis, and most daries have a high level of staph, ecoli, pseudonomas that because are at lower levels the milk is still accepted? Antibiotic residue from Naxcel which is not found on residue tests? I would not just pasteurise the milk I would boil it. Everything at the dairy you work at is on the up and up, you know all the secrets there including the health of all the stock? The SCC? The animals are in fact tested? If you are comfortable taking their herd health home with you in fluid milk and after reading the really long list of ruminant to ruminant disease that is passed in the milk, you still feel comfortable feeding this milk raw to your goatlings, go for it. I would not.

There is no accurate test for alot of what we pastuerise milk for. Even being negative for those we can test for I do not feed raw milk to my ruminants. I don't feed true dump milk here (antibiotic, worms etc..) to my pigs because I feed this pig to my family. Vicki

I know we test for antibiotics and several different strains of bacteria. We are a large dairy so we get milk from many farms. We produce about 150,000 gallons of milk a day. So I'll stick to letting the chickens and pigs have some excess milk but not the goats.

Thanks
