Winter is approaching, and proving how wimpy I am

It was *only* 41 degrees this morning (it will get colder and I know for a lot of you, it gets way colder than that!) I nearly shrieked when I grabbed the handle of the metal feed scoop this morning to feed the goats! Even the udder wipes were cold!

There's a great possibility that I could be moving soon, perhaps I can go ahead and dry my does out, if that's the case, then I have an excuse to not worry about milking when it's cold outside! (At least, until next year!)

I'm actually surprised that the cold teat dip did not seem to bother my does at all, they didn't even flinch. I thought that would be rather uncomfortable for them.

41 degrees in the morning? That would feel nice right now! This morning, it was 27 degrees when I went out there.... and yes, it's going to get worse. I also hate winter chores and milking. lol

I always keep our teat dip and cleaning stuff inside by the backdoor in the winter so it is warm when I go out

Yep, pretty cold here also, same temps as Kaza. I don't really love the winter all the time but I do like it & it's really beautiful here. One good thing about having animals is you have to go outside & take care of them everyday otherwise I think there would be some days we would just hybernate or at least want to.
I don't think the cold bothers the goats like we think it does though. If it's not raining mine seem to be still wanting to sleep outside right now instead of the nice houses all filled with straw.

41 degrees?!! If you do move don't move to Southern Idaho! Here we have to bring all the milking supplies inside the house at night. Even inside the barn heated water buckets are a necessity. We have a heat lamp bulb right over our milk stand, although it doesn't keep us or the does from shivering. If we didn't enjoy fresh goat milk so much our does would only get milked from May through September!

Seriously, just get a cheap plastic feed scoop. It'll feel warmer than the metal one.
