Oh, wow! they are very nice- I especially love the deep colour! If the kid is 'weak', I 'd look at cocci as the culprit. I have noticed though that late kids tend to be very small -males more than females- with a tendency towards being somewhat more suseptable to parasites and unless they have extra milk it can cause a bad decline.

She has very good breed character and a nice long coat. do not worry about his coat length, it will get longer at about a year old. Your BA's look nice too.

What size are her teats? He could be having problems latching on if her teats are large- I have one grade Guernsey like that - ack! It also seems to be a breed thing in many females to have teats larger than necessary.

AND I've watched the larger, more agressive kids push these guys away from feed- they are soooo laid back they let bigger kids just bowl them over. I'd keep him and register him- if we could import, I'd bring him here.

You can see some of mine at http://glastonburyfarm.blogspot.com Mind you, the opening post you see is not a goat post, but scroll back a couple of pages to see some goat pics. There is a link there to my webshots where there are even more Guernsey pics. Go to southwindfarms.org to see the US purebred herd and stumphollo.com to see Joan's goats.

LOL Minelson - feel free to look - I intended to post the actual pictures but somehow managed not to and can't figure out what I did wrong

betsy - Chestnut (the kid) is much better now. He was a twin whose brother died at birth and he struggled for a few weeks. For the first week or so I had to hold him up so he could feed he was so weak. After a chest infection, which had anti-b's and coccidial treatment he picked up and is now a strong little guy. I will try to get some updated pics of him but ned to sort out the batteries on camera. His coat has been a bit weird - he develped a long, VERY pale (almost white) over coat with the deep chestnut underneath. But now that light coat seems to be going and teh dark coat coming through.

I have just noticed that I was so busy trying to post the pics that I didn't make it clear. Both pics were taken in May - Chestnut is now 7 months old Promise I will try for photos tomorrow

Rockytopsis - thank you

hoggie

The GG's go through several coat color shifts- don;t be too worried about it, but if his coat gets really light gold and stays that way or has a really rough undercoat to it, this is a sign that copper is needed.

Thanks Kaza. I used to have it cracked with photobucket. But since they changed the site I can't get it to upload my photos so I had to put some on flickr and I DID work it out once how to do it, but it is so long that I can't remember what it was. Likewise the picture icon in th etoolbar doesn't do it's thing fo rme.

I took a couple of pics today - so let's see if I can manage to post these

Right!!!! That is Chestnut, my young GG posing for the camera LOL

This is Brownie - who was definitely NOT posing for the camera - she is the timid flighty one, hence the rope

This is Cocoa the more "scrubby" of teh two, who nevertheless has a fantastic temperament and I think may have the long coat. She has the "mohiccan" and the start of teh trousers

This is Goldie their triplet brother who doesn't usually stand like that honest but I posted th epic anyway to get an idea of the difference in size/bulk

And just for fun this is my "big baby"

They are so cool looking. Makes me want one. Do you do anything with the hair? They seem like sturdy little animals. How big do they get?

they are about the size of an Oberhasli.

In the US, unless you are willing to join the BGS grading up program, the only thing that is available is a pet wether or three.:-) Until ADGA recognizes them as a breed and they are added to the ADGA herd books, we register them through the BGS and keep scrupulous records through their herd books- it's a bit pricier to do the grading up process, but soe of us are up for it.

I do have a coupkle of nice wethers that need placing- I'm going to PA (near Philly) to pick up Guernsey does the end of Nov./1st of dec., so I could bring them up. Two bucks I'm bringing with me are going on up to NY, so perhaps somethng could be arranged?
