Is she aborting?

Ava was bred on 9/17. When she came out of the stall this morning she peed a strong stream of a yellowish to orange color which caught my eye. Within minutes she hunched down and tried to go again with three or four drops, then stood up and pooped a few berries. She has hunched several times without passing water. Then passed a few more berries that looked normal. I haven’t taken temp or anything yet. I’m going back outside to see what she is doing.

Ideas?

Thanks. Paul

Milking my goats twice a day during breeding season I usually will notice abortion, at no other time except after kidding would a doe have a really jelly wet tail. There at most is a streak of pale pink blood in this mucous and after all these years I have only one time seen a fetus (and this was not at 3 weeks fresh) that was the size of bait shrimp, the same color, everything. So although I would watch the doe, what you would be watching for normally is a doe who comes back into heat. There is nothing to do, taking a temp etc, is futile. Just watch for heat. Alot of does 'recycle' when in fact they aborted unnoticed. Sorry, it's a bummer. vicki

Thanks Vickie. It's middle of the day. I took her temp and it was normal. She has hunched twice that I saw with droplets after I posted. All else seems normal... eating, drinking, browsing etc. no stress nor change in disposition. Nothing jelly-looking nor sticky.
I'll watch her. The buck I used is still here on the farm in a separate pasture with a hogwire fence separating them. She hasn't shown interest in him since they were together 9/17 so I'm pretty sure that she took and hasn't recycled.

Did he breed anything for you before or after and they are fine? If you don't see heat in 21 days than in 26 days send in blood, it's just to easy to do and so cheap. Plus with biotracking.com doing both pregnancy testing and CAE I am using them for both this fall. Same blood same shipping and their prices are unbelievable.

Sorry this is happening, breeding season here is going like clockwork...which hasn't been the norm this last couple of years Vicki

test

Thanks again Vicki. No this is the little buck's very first season; AND boy is he stinky! You had posted the website for Bio before on another thread and I had visited there. However, with no one nearby to show me how to draw blood until now, I didn’t order the kit; thinking that I’ll just drive over my five goats to the vets’ office. Lo and behold a vet who recently moved to our little town made a neighborly stop by the homestead. He will come over late Sunday to pull blood on all animals (+ 11 sheep) AND SHOW ME HOW. He has all things needed for pulling, labeling, shipping etc., plus he uses a lab in Tifton. I'll just stay with these already made plans at this time, but if they don't also do the pg test then I’ll order the kit from Bio and then I, MYSELF WILL draw blood. Sure has been slow at learning when I don't have nearby folks who draw blood, bolus nor fecal for themselves. I'll soon be able to…

I’m excited about this vet because he owns goats, sheep, turkeys and heelers. Moving here from a couple of hours away, he’ll open an office fifteen minutes from my house in a couple of months.

Thanks to you and others on this forum; to the goatkeeping 101, etc., I can talk intelligently with him and know what I want in maintaining my little herd.

Paul, make sure you find out what kind of test they run. Do you know biotracking.com has never been wrong, not on one test ran on the whole forum at DGI? Also they run elissa CAE and give you titer levels for $4.....$4!

I know another lab in texas is running the exact name of the blood test that Bio Tracking is but much more expensive than the $7. Shoot I don't have time to look it up but around $7. Vicki
