fall is in the air & persimmons are on the ground

& the does think life if GOOD! The persimmons are getting ripe early this year. The girls had been hunting & poking around the oak trees for the first acorns..but NOW?? It's chaos at the gates in the mornings. The second we let them out to browse -you seen nothing but udders & tails - racing towards the woods. They know where each & every persimmon tree is located. It's a mad dash to be the first one there to gobble up the yummies that fell over night. They are wandering & eating other things too, but not for long.. One doe will try to *sneak* away to see if any more fruit has fallen.. the others see her trying to STEAL their fruit and the for the trees starts all over again.. silly does.

they are probably all in danger of being STUCK in a head down, eyes on the ground position forever! Carla (older black & tan doe will stand under a tree -once all the fallen fruits are gone- and watch & wait, watch & wait..until a breeze blows one more sweetie to the ground.. she will follow it as it falls & POUNCE on it!!! Edith knows I have the *power* to knock extras to the ground. She keeps an eye on me.. if she sees me pick up a big, long stick.. she comes barreling at me, full speed..she knows the stick means we are going to play *persimmon pinata* .... Living in the Ozarks, we have a LOT more oak trees. I'll be almost happy when the persimmons are done and they go back to acorns & fallen fall leaves. The entire herd's energy is very edgy right now..
