lump?

I was checking out Shasta tonight, my Mini Nubian who is 100% healed from the coyote/dog attack (that happened prior to my owning her) I found a lump on her that I didn't see there previously but its obvious now. It is halfway between where her ribs end and where her legs start along her left side. I took some pics but i can't upload til morning. It is an oval shape about 2-3 inches long and maybe an inch or so wide. (vertical).. I tried putting my hands around it and I nearly can except for a tad up top and at the bottom. It is pretty firm feeling so idont think its hidden infection or anything like that.

I was wondering if they get tumors in that shape? or what might it be? She is shedding quite a bit too, is that normal this time ofyear as we prepare to head into winter? (chickens are molting so the goat might too??) I can't tell if the others are shedding since they are dark colored and she is white so white hair is very obvious

I would keep an I on it just in case its CL, I doubt it but you never know. It could be an abscess from a previous shot, a sticker, or almost anything. I don't think tumors form under skin but you could call a vet and ask.

well she was attacked though the injuries were to her tail and all on the right side. This is on the left but maybe this one was missed and is related to her attack? How fast does CL develop lumps?

I read up on CL and it doesn't sound like the description on the tennessemeatgoats website. her lump is also higher up and closer to the ribs than the little diagram. well i guess i will just upload pics

It really sounds like its a lump from all the meds she would have received in the attack, but I would watch it just in case.

Goats don't usually molt or shed before winter. This is when they grow their winter long johns. Shedding is a sign of insufficient minerals.

Ahh gotcha. That I am guilty of! I didn't want to buy the block since ya'll talked about loose minerals here. Our TSC only had cattle loose minerals so i planned on checking the feed co op tomorrow. It isn't often I head that way so I hadn't done it thus far but Iwill make that a top priority now .

make sure you get a loose mineral with a high copper content. It should have several types of copper in its makeup. A cattle mineral is fine as long as it supplies all the goats need. Less salt is better but much harder to find. Just read the mineral content list on the bag. I use sweet-lix but its not available in all areas. You can visit their website to see if is available in yours.

I bought a bag of it today. I think 50 lb bag for $27 bucks so it better be exactly what I needed lol. I will check the label and let you know the copper level when I come back online.

I also went out about the community today and ran into a woman I bought my milker from and she introduced me to another goat lady. (building up my network here when i need help :P) and I talked to her about the lump. She is going to help me figure it out and she was a valuable resource . she even gave me some free liquid rennet to learn how to make cheese! So i will get this lump thing figured out and solved

From what I understand about CL (and I've never had a personal experience with it, so I'm no expert) it is not uncommon for a CL abscess to show up after a traumatic incident...during a move, after being attacked by a dog, after an injury, etc. So I'd keep a pretty close eye on it, and maybe separate her from your other goats.
