Thumbs up Test results back - yippee!

The test results are in and I'm elated to report that we are whole-herd negative for CAE, CL, and Johne's! I am very confident in these results, especially given that I have only purchased from two herds, both of whom are whole-herd negative as well, with a long history of testing negative. Yippee!!!

Even buying from only clean, tested herds with strict bio-security, I worry too. Neither herd does buck service, but we all show and transport so we're always wondering if something might get picked up along the way, especially because we know there are CAE-positive goats (and possibly goats with CL or other nasties) at the shows. I think it's normal (but not good) to worry, especially with all the panic about CL being a possible positive with the antibodies being negative. WADDL has a disclaimer on their paperwork about that now, saying all abscesses should be cultured & tested for CL regardless of antibody status. They also talk about titers for each of their classifications, but they don't actually give the titers. Is it worth getting this info. if they all fell in the negative range and aren't symptomatic? I wouldn't think so.

The state grant for Johne's isn't going to come through this year so that is a bummer, but I did not test because I thought I'd get a discount, I knew I needed to do it to maintain my herd and any discount/grant would have been icing on the cake.

I was once asked, what good does it do to worry? Great question, but we can't help it! We're human we're women; it's built-in! lol

Congrats, and thank you for testing! I wish everyone did.

~Mary, who also has a CAE and CL negative herd.
