I hope this is a bite or sting

I had something similar happen last year. One of my goats ( now gone) had gotten bitten or stung. I saw the small bump with blood, the next day it had swelled badly and within 2 days it was gone. But your stomach drops when you see a lump.
That is what happened to me this morning. This girl I did not see with the beginnings of a bite, but this morning she has a big swelling. It was not there yesterday and she is a bit of an idiot so I need help holding her to see if there is a sting or whatever in the middle. It is her cheek and not her jaw but still my stomach took a dive. I hope it goes down by tomorrow, if not I am going to freak. I have separated her. All these things are running through my head, like if the vet says CL ( please no!) I will have her put down right in his office and take the kids. If it is a bite I will have to find a way to get rid of the wasps nest in the barn without spraying and harming the babies that sleep in there. Or if it is Black widows track them down and stamp them out. We had them bad last year but not too much this one, this year is the year of the mosquito.
I really hate this and wish I could just know!

oh I feel for you.... I hate it when something shows up ... my head goes right to the worse case scenario too. I'm sure it's just a sticker or something since it's so big and came on so fast. Be sure to look inside her mouth too. Hang in there...and keep us poster

I wouldn't trust a vet's opinion if he just looks at it or it's contents. The only way to be relatively sure of CL status is to send in the contents for testing. Have them remove the abscess.

But, the placement is wrong for an abscess. It's usually located further back on the jaw, under the ear sorta where the lymph nodes are.

Hers looks like a tooth/cheek abscess.

There is no lymp nodes in the cheek. A little lower and would be a salivary cyst. CL abscess on the face is further back and down and further back and up.

Feel your cheek, now go over your jaw and feel your lymph nodes from your ears to your throat, where the doctor checks you when you have a sore throat...same thing in goats.

I will bet it's a tooth or sticker...do you feed wheat? Do you have nettles in your pasture? Wooden slats for her to put her head through to eat and they could use a sanding? But yes I would have it drained with the contents sent in, unless a coresponding molar is abscessed also. Vicki

Thanks for making me feel better. I have had a knot in my stomach all day.
No I do not feed wheat but we have plenty of "goat head" stickers and they are getting some type of wheat looking things stuck in their fur/hair. This comes from my neighbor's property. He keeps tempting them over to clear his area so he does not have to mow He kindly puts out grass hay along the fence line so they go for a visit. I told him to get his own goats!
Thanks again for the advice.
