Brand New Kids w/ Sticky Butts

My Spanish doe had twins yesterday, a boy and a girl. Their dad is a Boer and they are the cutest little things ever! Today their butts are a mess. They are having the normal yellow poop and it is sticking to them, then the sit in the dirt and sand. Their entire backsides are caked.

I only have experience with Nubian kids and their moms took excellent care in cleaning their butts up. Is this normal for Spanis/Boer goats? I'm starting to wonder if maybe there is something wrong with the babies. Maybe they are sick and this is the reason their behinds are so sticky. They seem very alert and active. I gave them probios and vitamin E after they were born. I didn't do the Bose because they were already up and around and very active by the time we found out they had even been born.

Should I try to clean them up? I gave it a half-hearted try this morning, but it is caked on and the little one did not like me messing with it. It is not blocking the passage of anymore poop though.

Thanks,
Tiffany

I always wash those little bottoms in warm soapy water. It is nice and warm out so you don't have to worry. Mine are always born in the dead of winter so I need to be careful not to get them too wet.

Its not the breed, its the goat. Some goats are not into cleanliness as other are so some moms are cleaners and some are not.
You just have a mom that doesn't like cleaning her kids.

I had one doe that wouldn't clean her kid. So I did. Had to do it for a few days and then all was fine!!!
