Udder Thread Sticky with pics for reference?

Could we have a sticky with Udder Pics and critiques?

Like a FAMCHA "card" for comparisons...

I have two elderly Nubians with teardrop udders - heavy milkers with marginal attachments. And then one young FF Oberhasli with a "shelf" at the top of her rear udder... Thought it might be interesting to see various udders for reference...

or do we already?

just a thought...

When I subscribed to Dairy Goat Journal they had a "judging" in each issue where you would be shown three or so goats, side & back view, and on the next page they would tell you who won & why.

I also would like to see "good" and "bad" udders as I could NEVER pick the "winner" in the magazine. I think it would really help goat owners in their quest to breed the best milkers by having such a pictorial.

The only problem with a thread like this is that you need a doe from each breed in different years of milk. (So we would need a FF Saanen, second, third,& on.)

Then we need a group of members to pick out udders. We need atleast 3 since we all have different breeding plans.

How about a sign up list. Just add our name if you have any of these does. Would some one like to have the pictures sent to them? I am on dial up so I can't.

Alpine,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

Saanen,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

Toggenburg,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

Nubian,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

Oberhasli,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

AOP (All Other Breeds)
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6 & over.

La Mancha,
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6. & up.

Each number means the number of freshenings. Feel free to add any other breeds, or take it from here!

Patty.

HMMM I could be wrong but.....Are udders that different between breeds!
Same set up same anatomy...Aren't good udders good udders no matter what breed? same for bad? unless they are meat goats, i guess? Dairy breeds, If its a mini you would need to know but i think it would be obviose...NO?
So i think just freshnings would matter?
Guess this is why we need this!!

I could see making sure the photos were clear on the age of the doe and how many freshenings she had, but a good udder should be a good udder no matter what your goal is. Vicki

Here is the pictures of my does. Two of them. They are FF and they are nubians. They give me 1/2 gallon each of them a day. So they both give me a gallon a day. Their name is Stagelight.

I would love that kind of thread!!!!! I am new to dairy goats, so I know about nothing when I comes to conformation (udderwise). I don't think we need to have one for each breed though, maybe just the # of freshenings would be enough.... Hope it happens!!!!!
