When your herd princess....

has babies and is busy being a good mom, do the rest of your does decide that they need to duke it out?
Mimi is being a great first time mom. She is keeping her twins in the barn and is not going out with the herd.
She was my first bottle baby and I made her the Herd Princess and she does a really good job. I have watched her quietly intimidate the others and keeps them in line. I call her and she comes and the rest follow. But now that she is keeping to herself with her kids, the Nigies have a battle going on. They are going at it and three times I went out there and made sure I broke it up so that I remain Herd Queen. The primary offender is a getting on my nerves, it is too hot out and she is irritating. She has made one of the girls bleed from her head. These girls are disbudded and she bled a bit from the area her horns would have been.
I hope that once Mimi has recovered from giving birth she will go back and do her job.

I don't dam raise babies and have never had babies in with adults, but knowing goats this Sounds normal to me, the herd Queen is busy so they are fighting for her place. Let them work it out and then they'll be done with it. It's also very normal for goats to fight during heat cycles and at kidding time, as they want the Best place for their babies.
