I got 4 kids!!!

Now that we are settled on the new farm I got 4 bucklings for meat from a neighbor farm for $5 each. Well 2 are now wethers. 3 are Saanens, Roger, Blue and Purple. They drink from a pail. and the other is a lamancha we call knobby because of his ears. he drinks from a bottle. Purple and Knobby I left intact as they are nice looking kids and we will need a buck if I ever find someone who will sell me a doe for a reasonable price around here.

I would never keep a 5.00 buck intact. I'm guessing unregistered, not disease tested, not vaccinated, not disbudded, not registered, etc. A buck is half your herd. You want to spend as MUCH as you can on the highest quality buck you can to pass his genetics on. Remember, you'll have to sell kids yearly out of him. A poor buck makes poor kids. Do YOU want to make more than 5.00 off of his kids?

How much are does going for in your area? A decent doeling, registered, from a good, clean herd will run you about 250+. Adult does in milk, more. You want to pay the higher price for higher quality - you'll be more pleased with them in the long run, trust me.

The bucklings come from a fairly new dairy that is still building their herd. They do not want to waste time or milk on bucklings.the bucks that were left were all distroyed. They only kept the doelings. The kids come from registered parents and are purebred. We picked out what we thought were the best, healthiest strongest looking ones. Just because they are not registered doesn't make them any less, after all it is only a piece of paper. Doelings are not for sale in my neck of the woods and a milker goes for $400.
