Talking Surprise Goatie Baby **pics**!!!!

And not only that......it's our FIRST KINDER BABY.......and a DOELING, to boot!

WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had bred my Nubian doe to my Nigie buck, but I didn't think it had taken. While all the Nigie does bagged right up while pregnant and started acting/looking preggy, she didn't. I noted to my son last week that Gracie looked "kinda fat" (I now think that the baby had moved around), but after that, she was back to just "chunky" a bit, which I assumed was just from her being queen of the food bowls. I don't even recall any udder bagging yesterday morning. I can't believe how fast it filled up!

Anyhow, before the unexpected birth, I go to the in-laws for supper, and when I got home, the first thing I see is an afterbirth laying on the ground. My little Nigie Angel had had 1 baby on Friday (I had expected 2), so I thought for a split second, "is it possible that she could hold onto another for that long?" since this baby was close in colouring to her "first" baby.......and then it turned it's head to me, and the loooooong Nubian ears were unmistakable! When it toddled to its feet, it was definitely a taller kid than the Nigies! HOLY TOLEDO!

Gracie, however, is less than thrilled. She is slowly adapting to letting the baby nurse, but is still a little anxious; she lets the baby come to her but sometimes swings her butt away. So I've been holding her with a collar to let the baby nurse. One thing I note is that Gracie's teats are so large.....the baby has a harder time latching on to them than the average kid, but she is managing. I suppose as she gets older, she will be more adept.

The doeling is exceptionally friendly. When we walk in, she is right there bleating to us (ok, probably not so much friendly, but hungry....I suppose she's starting to equate us with the holding of Gracie for meals, LOL)

I'll post some pics of her today (plus a few of the other new goaties I haven't mentioned before).

Her name is CeeGee (Christopher's Goatie) as he was the one holding her to nurse the first few times and he's very taken with her.

Congratulations on your surprise doeling! I know you are thrilled.

I may have it crossed up, but doesn't Nigerian Dwarf X Nubian = Mini Nubian? I thought Pygmy X Nubian = Kinder.

Like I said, I could be misinformed, but no matter, I know your new baby is definitely a KEEPER.

NeHi

P.S. Pics please!

cool! we had a surprise buckling last night - he was expected mid july, but I guess daddy snuck in a little earlier than I thought!

lucky you to get a doeling! She's a mini nubian though, not a kinder - kinder is nubian/pigmy cross.

Ahhhh, right you are, mini nubian it is! I had forgotten, the first time around it was with the Pygmy, I hadn't thought it took and he was for sale, so I put the my new Nigie buck in with her instead to see if he had better luck. I guess he did.

I've got 2 does that are surprisingly preggers and possibly a third! Winter milk! Mid July and late July and then maybe August! All full Nubians, well one is an alpine cross.

Cute baby!
