Selling goats mlk in Ohio

A little background on this.....the Dairy division of the ODA had decided someimte ago that selling raw milk for animal consumptions should not be allowed because raw milk is not listed as an "approved ingredient" by the orgainzation that oversees per food. So, they "moved" the jurisdiction over to the "Animal Feeds" division of the ODA. Well, The Animal Feeds division mad a new rule about goats milk.

The following is what I posted to a couple goat groups here in Ohio this morning:

I just got off the phone with 2 people from the ODA. The first person was Mr. Jones, Chief of the Dairy Division. He said that they are having some preliminary discussions about developing rules for Herdshare Agreements, but they are about 6 months away from serious discussions.

Mr. Jones referred me to Dave Simmons, Animal Feed Division of the ODA regarding my question about selling goats milk.

Dave Simmons said that the Dairy Division had "passed off" the issue of "goats milk for animal consumption," saying that "raw milk is not listed as an approved feed ingredient, so therefore should not be legalized." If I understood his explanation correctly.....Mr. Simmons decided that since it is not listed was an ingredient for feed, then it should not be regulated. He wrote a rule which exempted goats milk from regulation. He was not able to send me a copy of the rule because that cannot happen until about 90 days after the rule went before the JACAR (sp?) Committee. He said that it was passed by the JACAR Committee about 30 days ago.

Mr. Simmons said that it does need to be labeled:
1) Goats Milk, and it needs to say whether it is raw or processed.
2) Either the farm name or the individual's name.
3) City and State where it was produced.
4) The amount that it contains.
5) You CANNOT make any other claims (health benefits, butterfat content, etc.
