Great milking setup

My husband went to walmart and bought me a stainless steel pot with a 5 qt stainless steel mixing bowl that had a straight lip on it so that the bowl fit in the pot but could rest on the edge.

I put enough salt solution in the pot to float the bowl a bit, put a lid on it and put the whole thing into my freezer.

It makes milking so much easier. I start by taking the bowl out so the milk does not freeze instantly. Once I have enough milk I put it back in and milk directly into the combination. By the time I am done milking and get back to my kitchen the milk is at 50 degrees.

I had canceled my order at Hoegger for the milking pale so this setup replaced it at a lower cost.

Very cool! Do you find it difficult to clean if a hoof should step in? Does it filter the milk for you too?

i'd love to see a photo! i am also looking for another solution, as i just cannot pony up the dough for hoeggers. i seen another person online use a dutch oven and cut a moon out of the lid , and i'd do that, cept i must cart my milk to the house, and worry about spilling or stuff getting into it before i get inside. shamefully i use an ice cream bucket for now.

can this thread carry on as 'lets see your milking bucket?'
