I would think that if you buy the feed from local feed stores already in bags and they wer kept dry they would last a very long time. They were probably packed many months ago before we even bought them for our use. If it is loose feed bought from a mill...as long as it's not damp or wet it might be OK. I find with my mill feed that it doesn't take long with the humdity to form clumps of moldy feed. I have been "weaning" my goats off of feed. Only the old goat and the milkers get feed. The other bucks, kids and milking does that still are nursing their kids don't get feed except as an occasional treat. Even my horses I have cut back to about once a week treat. They get excellent hay now from the fields and I do and will by the day old bread from the bread outlets at a cheap!! animal feed price from them. I can't afford the cost of feed for my animals and I can see the day coming that perhaps I won't be able to afford having my 18 "pet' goats either. Will always have a couple of milkers though. Ask cooperative extension this question more than likely they can give you some ideas. Good Luck !!
