Is this mastitis?

I got another milker yesterday from a herd that is usually healthy. The guy told me she had been sick with a bit of bloat this spring and her milk supply decreased. I took her without her babies and have been milking regularly and dry.

Her udder is very hot, does not feel lumpy when full (she's only giving 1 qt. 2x a day), feels a bit lumy when dry, and she gave out a few chunky pieces of milk tonight from her left teat. When she was done milking, I massaged her udder and was able to squeeze out a tiny bit more each time. No blood.

Does she have mastitis? Is it safe to drink the milk? Do udders have lumpy qualities when the goat is dry?

Sounds like she does to me. I would not drink the milk. Udders are not usually lumpy if thats what you mean.

I'd milk her three or four times per day and see how things look.

Older does can have lumpy udders. One of mine does.

You can always send off a sample for testing.
