Talking What is the strangest thing you have done w/ your goat?

Have you taken your non-packing goat camping?
Rode a bus with a goat?
What kind of looks did you get?

There is the thread about the goat in Portland OR accidently getting on the city bus, I thought it would be neat if we could tell funnies that we have experienced in some way.
We have all probably hauled a goat kid on our lap in the car, ever put an adult goat in your backseat?
I hauled llamas in teh back of my minivan. When I was little my parents had a camper-shell sort of thing. It looked like a camper and had wood panneling and a fold-down bed, but that was it. We hauled an adult buck home from across the state. I'm not sure how long it took us, but now that drive takes me ~10 hours.

What's your story?

We're pretty much unable to get caregivers for our animals when we want to take off, especially for the milking does, so they have come on all kinds of crazy adventures with us.

Some of the highlights include many several hundred mile road trips with a goat in the back seat, behind the seat or in the back of the truck... a three day salmon fishing weekend with the goat packing salmon on the beach, riding in the boat, tethered to me while I dipnetted... many trips in our bushplane, where they ride either right behind my seat or on my lap and backpack loads for us while in the bush.

I have traded fresh goatmilk in remote villages for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a place to sleep. I've left one tied in the back of an open-bed pickup while darting in someplace to eat lunch, while she cried for us... then the restaurant owner wanted to meet her.

I have slept in a tent with a doe many many times... in fact Streakie knows how to cuddle up and makes a great guarddog... nickering when anything out-the-door seems out of place. In fact, our goats are great about telling us when there are bears around... they get stock-still and shake and don't usually make a sound.

My husband grew up in the bush with goats for brothers and sisters, instead of having neighbor kids to play with- he had goatkids. When his mom would call him in for meals, she'd nicker to goat and that way she'd be sure to find him.

We love our goats.

We have a Nigerian Dwarf doe that was hand raised indoors so she marches right in the door with the kids and sometimes tromps around the kitchen tile before we notice that she's in the house.

When we've had babies, I have driven to the feedstore, gas station etc with one on my lap. Makes for a very tame goat.

One of our goats jumped into the driver seat of my MIL's convertible. Unfortunately, she didn't relieve herself in there...

In 1978, drove 3,800 miles in heat of summer, Central/eastern Canada to Vancouver Island, two adults, three young kids, camping in GMC suburban. Gone for a month. Had "home herd" boarded out for a month, at two goatkeeping friends'. Visited family in BC and did some touring. At Hundred Mile House, visited goat people . bought two LaMancha kids (weren't many in Eastern Canada at that time). Headed home kids in chicken wire cage with bottles of milk. Milk ran out/went sour half way home. Had some emergency braking coming through mountains. Kids/cage/shavings dumped all over occupants and bedding. We were all sleeping in the Suburban too, and the skitters were so bad we had to keep the windows closed some nights. (Duct tape and screening didnt work too well). All survived, those two LaM does raised me lots of sets of twins

Had the lady at the bank drive -up give us a doggy treats for the goats in the tote in the back seat. lol Love the looks. We went to get 2 goats, they went in the back seat (truck was down) so covered the back with tarps. When we stopped for gas, the girls got up and poked their heads up inbetween the front seats, lots of looks, I smiled and waved. Carolyn

The highlight of the day here for our goats is when the UPS truck pulls in. They come running! They jump into his truck and help the driver search for the package. Luckily we have a VERY nice driver...he gives the dogs treats too. The bad part is when he is on vacation and an unknowing driver delivers...he is usually quite surprised when he opens his door!

I entered my Pygmy goat, Belle in a fun dog show. She heeled just like the others in the ring. She took a First place ribbon in the costume class and a first place in the tricks class. She did all her tricks, shake, sit, lie down, bow down, and attack on command.. She did so well, she had her picture in the local newspaper. I also took her camping with my DH and the horses for the past 5 years. When people would see us, they wouldnt say, hi how are you, they would only ask .....where's Belle....did you bring Belle?

I take my goat to work every day. I rescently took her to "working dog weekend" at the farm park because my work had a booth set up (vet clinic) She was to be bait so people would come over to our booth. Worked VERY well. You would think that people going to a farm park would know what a goat is but I still got "is that a baby llama?" "what kind of dog is that?". Here is a pic of her on her spot for the day

This started out as a "normal" goat activity- hauling a load of goats to a show. In this case, my show string going to the 2006 MN State Fair in my ugly truck.

The truck dropped dead on heavily travelled Snelling Avenue about a mile from the fair. The goats all tried to escape from the boring truck. Lucky for us all, the police showed up.

In the background, hundreds of people driving to the fair who witness the spectacle of goats being loaded into a police SUV. Officer Lebens holds the rack gate closed, Capt. Quick takes the picture, a mystery writer getting "a look at real police work" leads a goat, and I display the Clenched Fists O' Stress.

The police officers were sooo sweet. They both stopped by later during the fair to show their kids the goats. Capt. Quick e-mailed me the pictures after the fair.

We moved from MN to WA with our 2 goats. And a dog, 2 cats, 2 hamsters and 2 gerbils. Plus 2 kids and 2 adults. In a RAV4. The goats were the easiest of the bunch!

Heh, Anna. That cop in the picture doesn't look like he'd be a lot of help chasing goats.

"Clenched fists of stress" indeed. Those work best when applied to the head of the source of your stress.

When I saw the picture of the goats in the police cruiser, I was thinking, "Book 'em, Danno!"

My daughter was a cowgirl for Halloween 2 years ago, so I made a "pony" mane and tail for our goat and took her Trick-or-Treating.

Love the pics!

I went through the Dairy Queen drive-through with a newborn Nubian doeling on my lap under the steering wheel. The lady at the window kept sneaking peeks at her and finally she looked me in the eye and said "Thats a goat". I just looked back at her and solemnly said "I know". And that was that.

I always haul goats in my car. The truck uses too much gas to warrant using it when I only have a goat or two to haul. I also have taken walks down our road accompanied by a dog, a cat and a baby goat.

I have on 3 seperate occasions, hauled goats on 3 and 4 hour trips on the backseat of my honda civic. full grown milkers, BTW.

I bought an alpine last year from a lady in Ohio, and on the way back, we went through wendys drive through. All the people were smashing their faces in the window to get a look. the one lady said, "they need to get out too, just like a dog".

when I bought our saanen (sugar) from Boren, a guy behind me was taking pictures with his camera phone. when we stopped at a light, I rolled the window down and asked him what the bleep he was doing? he says "You have a goat in your car, its funny!" then drove away.

we also stopped in Indianapolis, at my moms house that day and let her out into her fenced front yard. She has 2 white standard poodles.
so Sugar was eating grass in her front yard and Hernon, the mexican boy who lives across the street runs out and says Suzy, suzy, did you get a new dog?
