My first babies-no pics yet

As most of you know, Patty0315 has been taking care of most of my goats this winter and spring. I only had 2 pregnant does still here and the one kidded last night, 5 days early! Completely unexpected and definitely unprepared for it. She is an experienced mom and did great. Had a scare-the first one was presenting only her head and both legs were stuck straight back. She was beginning to turn blue and strangulate with each contraction and push and I could not get the legs out. I managed to find one leg and got it out but the other was really hard to find. Some very good friends came over(11:30pm) and he had to pull it out with the leg behind her, but she was alright and then about 20 min. later, her little brother just shot right out into the guys arms! They are both doing well and will post pics soon. The girl is a Schwartzal with blue eyes and the boy is a tri-color pinto with blue eyes. She is definitely going to wear the pants in the family. I hope that doesn't happen that way again, I can't handle the stress

Congrats on the new goats!

I understand that 10 days +/- the due date is considered "normal" by some standards. Even if I know the breed date (which can be done even with pen breeding), mine are on watch for the last couple of weeks. Two of mine delivered 5 days early and the third delivered 4 days early. We were ready for all of them and darn glad too!

Enjoy your new ones!

Thanks guys, mama and babies are doing really well today even with that horrible thunderstorm we had earlier. I thought the tornado watch had turned into a tornado!! It was really out- I don't know how you people in the midwest handle the threats of tornados. Mama is more protective this time around, not sure why. She evens grunts at me when I go in to see her and feed her. She must not have forgiven me for putting my hand where no hand was meant to go and letting a man do the same thing.

LOL..I'm sure that is exactly whats going through her mind....sillycrazygoatgal! Maybe it was the thunderstorm that put her on edge.

Congratulations crazygoatgal!! I know you were excited and I can hardly wait to see the pictures, especially since I don't know what a schwartzal is & you know I have Nigies too! hahaha!
Your right we have had lots of storms over the past few days & lots of tornados too. I don't like it either!

Congratulations I'm glad it all work out. Please post some pictures I would love to see them. I have a doe due on the 16th I watch her closely thinking the pressure from the storm would make her go into labor. I was trapped out in my goat shed for the evening storm it was really wild out. Hope you have a great day with your little babies. A@VT

A@VT-- In Troy we had whats known as a "super bolt". Its a lightning bolt that can destroy your house in one shot-yikes, that was scary! I was driving home when it got really bad and had to go hide under a highway bridge for protection. Was it that bad by you? Did you get the tornado? I thought we saw one but it never touched down if it was one. I was truly scared for animals in the barn. But what a beautiful day today!!!

Crazygoatgal, In the evening at our house the sky got all greenish and then all of a sudden it got extremely windy and began to hail and thunder and lightning the strange part was the lightning was bright pink and red. It was one of the scariest storms I have ever seen but maybe because I was in the goat shed (it only has a tin roof so it was extra loud) and my kids were in the house but at least their dad was home. I'm glad you and your barn are all set it was a big storm, A@VT P.S. where are the pictures of the new babies?
