Preparing a wheter for freezer camp

Does anyone do anything special like feed feed for X days? My dad always talks about how he finished out a hog. So I was curious what people did with their goats. I have a dairy wheter that I want to put in the freezer and this will be our first time eating goat.

How old is the wether? Do you feed him any grain? That is all that is needed for a meat goat. Some folks never give them any grain but I think it helps the taste of the meat. Are you going to dress him out yourself? I was told not to use the fat or cut thru the bone as it gives it the goaty taste. I use beef suet if I am making goat burger. Goat meat is very lean so very healthy, but you need to keep it moist and cook it slow to prevent it from getting too dry when cooking. I love goat meat and nope I can't tell you what it tastes like. My son says it is closer to beef in flavor. Enjoy

He is a year. He's had a little fed off and on, access to a 16% protein block and I just started him on the stand this morning to take feed. I am taking him to be processed. I have helped with chickens but am not ready to tackle a goat myself.

we don't do any thing special the last few days before butchering day. Our meat animals nurse their whole lives, and only get grain at hoof trimming time. I've never heard of finishing out a goat like you do with a hog. Many years ago we would pen them up the night before to empty their bladder and stomachs, but we don't do that any more, made them nervous at the change of routine.
