What is "Boss" and "Bo-se"

Ok, so I'm still new to this, and I'm reading and reading and I'm thinking that I'm NEVER gonna get even 1/16th of this information down. There are so many illnesses and differences of opinions on things that I'm lost as can be.

I have Nubian and Boers, with a few crosses in there as well, for a total of 20 goats. I'm milking one doe right now, only cuz it's all I can handle right now. I have a few hundred chickens. A mare and her foal as well. Along with all the dogs and cats, oh, and ducklings too.

I've been reading and reading, and I've heard of giving Boss to the goats and the horses, I think. Also, read about Bose. What are these and when do you use them?

I'm going to be on here alot, asking lots of questions, until I get some of this figured out. I want to thank everyone in advance, and apologize for the mistakes I'm sure to make.

Thanks everyone.

Boss=that would explain why the feed store didn't know what I was talking about, LOL! When would you feed this, just for all around health?

Also, Bose, is that BovaSera? I have that. Keep it on hand for kids in need or just a boost. If that's what that is.
Thanks!!!!!

Sunkissed we have all been there. You WILL learn it. And then some. Just keep coming back & before you know it some of it will click..you will see something and KNOW what to do.
I give BoSe. We are in a selenium deficient area. This is something your vet can tell you. It prevents white muscle disease.
There will be differing opinions. Listen to them all and weigh them.
Many do not use BoSe either because it is not needed or they don't belive in it. Same with CDT. My girls get their BoSe & CDT a couple of times of year
as well as chemical wormers. We have Boers and Boer/Nu crosses.

Im still overwhelmed at times with all Im learning. Theres lots I need to get a handle on. My priorities were just to keep my herd healthy with the vacs they needed in addition to the basics.

Keep on Goatin!!

Dont be ridiculous! Of course you will learn the information!

BOSS is Black oil sunflower seed.

BoSe is Bovine Selenium. Youre gonna wanna give your goats a yearly (or so) shot of it if youre in a selenium deficient area. I dont know if Texas is or not. A bunch of people here are from Texas, maybe pm them?

You have to get BoSe from a vet. I dont really know why, but they dont sell it in stores. It prevents white muscle disease, which we had in lambs one year. Its a sad disease. Some people dont give it for one reason or another, even if they dont have it in the soil (here in Michigan does not), but I really dont think it is a good idea NOT to give it if there isnt selenium in the soil.

I feed Boss (black oil sunflower seeds) to my chickens, goats & Horses. Mostly because they love it! and it's good for their coats and feet (horses anyway...that's how I started) So around here it is a treat mostly. A reward for the horses for coming in from the pasture at night so I don't have to go get them. A way to get the goats to go into their pen quickly. I am not selenium deficient so I didn't use the Bose... Welcome!
