Question What do you feed a buck?

I understand that bucks aren't suppose to have a lot of grain is this true? What do you feed your bucks? We have my buck in a pen clearing out small trees and things for us. He is getting weaned. And gets one 10 oz bottle in the morning and at night. He is always hungry though. So I have been giving him oats and corn. So suggestions on keeping him full? He has plenty to graze but I guess it's not enough. I could give him hay but he won't eat a lot of that. He got picked on a lot while eating it so maybe he just needs to get the hang of it?

Most goats go their entire lives without ever even tasting grain. I don't feed my goats any grain at all from the time the first grass appears in the spring until the snow covers everything up, and then only a minimal ration to those who are milking or pregnant as a supplement to their hay.

Mine get grass hay and are on a grassy pasture besides. He gets alfalfa pellets and a tiny bit of grain because he is a kid and still growing. When more grown he will get NO grain EXCEPT before, during and after breeding season. Then he will again get NO grain. When starting up any grain it must be done gradually.

Hope that was not too confusing. The buck I am speaking about is only 13 weeks old.

Pasture and hay is the main food.
Grain only a little when under 4 months old and again during breeding.

Goats are never full if you ask mine. As soon as they see or here us, they act like they are starving even with tummies full of fresh browse. LOL

If this is the same little buck you were talking about in your other thread I would think he's too young to be just on browse, I would give him some grain & alfafa pellets like Zone said and also make sure he has access to hay & loose minerals & mix in some baking soda too. Just till he get's a little older, but now he's still growing. Are you still feeding him milk?

For growing bucks, I give alfalfa and up to 1# of grain a day. They usually stay on this through their first breeding season. Once they're out of rut, they go on pasture and a little grass hay. Back on Alfalfa and grain next breeding season.

He is 3 months old. He gets 8 oz at morning and evening. He is eating corn and oats and I give him hay.

He needs to be on a grain with Amonium Chloride in it to prevent UC. All my Bucks young and old all get a grain with AC in it.
