Very Sick Baby - Need Advice

My baby boar is about 8 weeks. I moved all the goats to a different part of the pasture two days ago. I have used this section of pasture many times over the last 4 years - no bushes in it. Just the same grass the rest of the pastures are.

I found her about 8pm bloated and belly hard as a rock and barely standing. Gave her 30 cc(one ounce) of mineral oil. Hour later she had the awfullest green stool, still bloated, so gave 2nd dose of mineral oil. Just went out (it is 3 am here) and her stomach is some softer and she had more foul smelling green poo. Stomach still bloated. Gave her 30 cc more of oil (third dose) and gatorade (my vet had recommended that in the past). She is grunting and very weak.

Any suggestions? She looks bad.

Here's a reference... http://kinne.net/bloat.htm

Pepto Bismal worked for my baby goat when he had bloat.

It sounds like she ate too much fresh grass. Did she come from a sparcer pasture or from eating mostly hay?

I would get some CD antitoxin and give it to her.

You can also walk her and bounce her belly to help her burp.

Some probios or active yogurt would be a good idea too.

Hope all is back to normal this morning...Jill mentioned baking soda, also keep the goat on it's feet, walk it around and rub like crazy on the stomach side of the goat...after a while with the oil, soda, and endless rubbing the goat will noticeably begin to belch....then back to normal....Update please...TJ

I got some milk of mag in her and she wouldn't stand, but I rubbed and rubbed and bounced her tummy. She starting burping and I could feel the peristalsis in her tummy starting. But by then she was too far gone. She died this morning.

I have (had) 15 babies and 13 adult goats and she is the only one to do this. I think she was smaller than all those rough and tumble boys and got crowded out of her hay in the morning and over-ate the grass all day.

Thank you for your help. Cindy

I'm sorry you lost her. It seems like they can go so quick sometimes.

In an either or situation you can use a 16 ga needle to release the gas.
