slaughtering adult billy

If our billy comes back CL positive I intend to slaughter him. In another thread there was mention of being careful so the glands don't affect the flavor of the meat. How do you be careful about not letting the glands affect the flavor of the meat? Do you also need to kill the goat in a different manner? I would shoot him in the back of the head, but isn't that where the glands are?

Unless you plan on eating the head, I don't think it matters if you shoot him there.

I would bathe and shave him before butcher, simply because you don't want the meat touched by any of his yucky hair, and the less there the easier it would be. I would also keep a hose nearby so I could hose off any trouble spots.

If a goats in rut it will be bucky.
Some breeds are all season breeders and usually the meat is bucky.

Ones out of season, for over a month, have very little to no buckiness.

Glands dont matter. Its the hormones in the system that matter.

My DH hates bucky meat so we butcher season breeders out of rut, in summer.

Our pygmies are always in rut so the bucks go for dog food. And full grown pygmy bucks are very bucky!!

When the hormones are at peak the buckiness is so strong on cooking it will burn your sinuses!

Oh and shooting the head is the best way to kill them and the least messy.
